Yeah, DS1 slept on me at night until 2.5 months and for naps till 6 months. DS2 is a bit better and will do at least two stretches in the crib at night and naps in swing occasionally. It is tough.
I ended up sleeping while holding him for about 2 hours last night but I'm just so afraid of dropping him or suffocating him kwim? Esp since we are so tired and falling fast asleep is so easy for us.
I'm kind of hoping after this initial 2 week settling in period, we'll find a way to put him down to sleep, for his own safety.
So for both kids I lay flat on my back and kid sleeps on my tummy. DS would even sleep on his back on my tummy. I would keep a hand on his back or belly. But that way I am not holding him so not worried about dropping and I can feel him breathing. I would only use a sheet to my waist.I have a picture on FB if you want to see

farmvillelover - that's rough, DS1 was like that and we just slept in shifts for the first few weeks and then traded off bed sharing in the guest room for another month or two while he got more and more used to not sleeping directly on one of us.
karinothing - DS2 was like that after 430, just would not go back down! I basically did all the wake ups until then and would let DH sleep in exchange for him being up with the baby from 430 am until he had to start getting ready for work at 630am. That way I at least got a little last bit if sleep before having to be up for the day with both kids. And DH was then pretty well rested for work, just up earlier than normal. I think it lasted until DS2 was 2 or so months old. I river the pedi saying their circadian rhythms just aren't really well developed until 6 or 8 weeks, so some newborns just think the day starts super early.
