If it's really difficult, most of them will give you buttons to press if you get lost so they can find you. They also have staff in the maze if you need help.
A really difficult one? No. We do go to a fairly large one every year but it's a popular place and you're never in there alone. Plus, being a popular place, it's always been overrun before we get there, so people (probably teens) have made paths where there shouldn't be. If you really got lost you could just take one of the fake paths.

Last year the girls and I got lost in a corn maze. I was wearing DD2 and ended up having to carry DD1 as well through the 2nd half. We had to stop for a snack break that's how big it was. It was hell. This year we are skipping it!

We did one in grad school and there were a few moments where I thought we might not find our way out. It had a map you could look at, but it's not like a bunch of corn has many landmarks.
I always thought they sounded so cool until I did one. It was a tiny one and I didn't like it. So no, I will not be going in a big one ever! Now I understand the couple that called 911 after being stuck in one for hours.

I did a hard one that we couldn't solve after 2 hrs and just gave up and raised the flag. It was not fun, but I still like the idea of them. Unfortunately, it was a freakishly hot fall day -like upper 80s and we were just hot and tired.

Why wouldn't you just push your way out through the corn?
I never understood the thrill of these, especially with kids. It's not like little kids understand that they're in a maze, and even if they do they're not going to want to work to find their way out. It just sounds not fun for everyone involved.
We go to the farm with the hay rides , pumpkin picking, and pumpkin cannon. The latter is DS's favorite, he loves picking a pumpkin for the cannon.
I don't think I've ever done one and I have no interest. I hate hate hate being lost and I do tend to get claustrophobic, so it sounds like a nightmare. And I don't do scary, at all, so a haunted corn maze sounds Like torture. Omg lucybrown, I probably would have had a heart attack!

We went to one last year with DS so he was almost 3. He understood the maze concept. He actually has a mild maze obsession.

I did this once. I took the kids I was a nanny for to the maze. It was a disaster. lol.
FYI: that particular place frowned upon that method. But they weren't lost in a maze with three upset, tired kids under 4.
I love corn mazes and my favorite one is very large and fairly difficult. You get a map and there are checkpoints throughout the maze. The idea is to punch your card at each of the checkpoints. It's still really easy to get lost.
I did once have some... lower intestinal distress once right in the middle of the maze. It was pretty terrible and it's really, really hard to read a map under such circumstances. I still love them though, I just won't go out for vegan food right before going to a maze again.
I love the idea of them but I've never been in a difficult maze. The corn maze at our local farm is just a big circle so it's not hard to find your way to the middle and back out.
I read an interesting maze solving theory in one of DS's books that I'd like to try out some time. It said that all you have to do is put your hand on the left side of the wall and never take it off as you walk. I imagine that it's not the shortest way to solve a maze as it could lead you down all the dead ends but it claims you will always find the way out.
I did some stupidly long one last Halloween because DH thought it would be fun. I ended up nursing J as massive groups of people were barreling by us. Never. Again.
I did before kids and hated it. I did an easy one with the kids one year and my oldest freaked out. It was a tad much for her anxiety and OCD (it was undiagnosed at that point, I had NO idea she would react like that)

Wait, you've never done that? I thought everyone knew that mazes could be solved by the left or right hand rule. For any maze where you enter at an edge and exit on an edge, you can find your way out by following either wall. If you start this technique in the middle of the maze, it may not work since you could be going in a circle on an inner island section. The left hand rule won't necessarily get you to specific waypoints in a maze, since you can never get inside an "island" that isn't at any point connected to the outer wall.
Anyway, I love mazes, but I doubt I'll do any until my kids are a bit older.
Yes. There's a haunted corn maze and a regular corn maze in my area. They're both hard. We did the haunted one drunk with some friends a few years back and had a blast.
