We are going o visit my BIL next month in the Cleveland suburbs. Any suggestions of things to do and places to eat for a 2.5 year old? We will have a couple of weekdays to explore.
The zoo is great. There is also a Children's museum in Cleveland. The aquarium and Great Lakes Science center are meh. There is a submarine you can tour on Lake Erie that is fun for adults and interesting for kids to look at.
As far as eating in Cleveland, there is little Italy and you could visit the Hard Rock in tower city.

The zoo is a ton of fun! Botanical garden. There is a fun restaurant called Noodlecat that would be good for kids. There is a really cool playground in Beachwood. I mean, this is a huge playground lol. Stan Hywet hall and garden in Akron is cool. Hale Farm and Village.
Which general area will you be in? East side, west side, etc.?

Depending on when, Burnhams Orchard has the best fall festival and apple picking around. Check their website for yours dates and see if there is anything going on. We've been to a dozen or so in this area and this one is by far the best.
And @callmefia is right about the Michael Symon burger place. I think there are two on the west side. B Spot. Yum. There is also a Melt over there. For an adults dinner if you have the chance and want some really good Mexican try Momocho. You'll want reservations. It's pricy but so good.
Actually we went to the B Spot in Crocker park a few years ago completely by accident. The sign said burgers, beers, brats and we went in without realizing it was a Michael Symon restaraunt. It was yummy and we definitely plan to go back!

I second the Lake Erie Nature Center in Bay and Huntington Beach, which is right nearby. The playground at the westlake Rec center is great for that age, including a big hill to run up & get tired out before nap time. The children's museum in university circle is fun. The libraries in both avon lake and Fairview have awesome children's play areas.
For eating with kids, Beardens in River is always fun. And Mitchells for ice cream. Danny boys does have great pizza as does Sweet Basil in Westlake.
If you are interested in both the botanical gardens & Stan Hywet it might be more economical to get reciprocal membership passes at some other horticultural place.
There is a certain distance in the reciprocity clause so we can't use our Stan Hywet membership at the botanical gardens though.
You need to get a Cleveland one! I got into SH for free yesterday with my Cleveland membership.
