Is she into some MLM scheme for natural energy products or something?
Seriously, if your LO does not seem to be affected, then it's fine.
I continued to drink my one cup per day throught pregnancy and still do while nursing DS. I will say, though, that if I'd have a coffee in the afternoon, he'd seem more "wakeful" that night, but that's about it.
Ugh, so I'm not a big coffee drinker but I'm seriously tired. I have a newborn and a toddler...so that's explanation enough. I was at Starbucks yesterday, ran into an old friend who said she was surprised I didn't order a decaf. WTF. Okayyyy so I mentioned that I didn't think 1 cup of coffee had an impact on a baby. She then informed me I needed to really read up on it, look into Kelly Mom (I thought I had), and try other natural energy remedies.
So what am I missing? If you think the effect of caffeine while nursing is detrimental (or maybe not such a strong word) could you point me to that research? Also, what are some natural energy options?
Your missing that your "friend" is a twat who needs to MHOB.
I cut back during pregnancy and then had to cut caffeine pretty much completely with DD because caffeine aggravates her reflux. She can tolerate a chai tea latte and that's about all. Starbucks can make a lot of their fancy coffee drinks decaf, though!
I kept to the maxes when I was pregnant but not while breast feeding necessarily, I recently upped from one to two a day. Have seen no difference in DS.
Fuck that noise. How do people think that's okay???
So before I was ever pregnant, I met one of my very good friends for lunch. We work near each other so we regularly meet for lunch. She was pregnant and got a diet coke with lunch. I remember thinking wow I thought you weren't supposed to have caffeine when pregnant. But I kept that thought in my head!!! And then I got pregnant and realized I was an idiot. Glad I kept my mouth shut.
I don't drink coffee every day, but when I do I notice zero difference with DD. I also drank it while pregnant, and just kept under the 200 mg of daily caffiene.
I drink coffee all day long! I drink water with meals, but I always have a coffee with me all day. I have not seen any issues with ds because of it. Ignore that girl. You know your baby better than her. If your baby shows signs of being bothered by the caffein the you can cut back.
I don't know why, but the milk bank asks donors to limit the amount of caffeine they consume. However, I know my 2 shots of espresso per day are within their limits.

Meanwhile, they're mainlining caffeine into the preemies to help regulate their heart.
Yeah, donating milk has more stringent guidelines because it goes to fragile babies. And if your induvidual kid seems to react to caffeine, then restrict it. But it's not a thing to worry over, generally.

I so wish I could have had coffee when I was pumping, but the caffeine made my milk supply tank, so I had to forgo it. I don't know much about how it affects babies really, only the milk supply aspect of it. But if you don't have that problem, then drink away.
