My csection was scheduled for tomorrow morning, be Nathan Rainier decided to make an early arrival on 8/26.
We had everything planned out. My mom would fly down a few days early, we'd go out for mani-pedis, shopping, and finish preparing the house. DH would be home and my inlaws would also fly in the day before to help with childcare. Welp, it didn't go quite like that, but it all worked out in the end.
At my 38 week appointment, I mentioned I had noticed reduced movement over the past week and was concerned. The doctor sent me for an NST, and while the baby had 2 accelerations within 20 minutes, they were both at the very beginning of the test, shortly after they placed the monitors. To be on the safe side, they then sent me for an U/S to check my fluid.
It measured 3cm, and typically they like to see between 5cm-25cm. Since I was term, the doctor said they rather take him now than wait around. A swab and ferning test did not indicate I was leaking fluid, so my placenta may have been starting to fail. They sent me to L&D to check-in. It was baby time!
DH was working and luckily I was able to catch him at the ATL airport between flights. He was scheduled to have a layover in Grand Rapids that night, and may have not had a flight option back had I not caught him in time.
Friends came over to pick up the kids at school and help watch them, and our parents rushed to the airport to get on flights to Atlanta.
I walked I to the OR at 8:50, and Nathan Rainier was born via RCS at 9:36pm measuring 7lb 12oz, and 19" long. He came out wailing, which was such a wonderful sound.
Our parents were at the hospital by that point, and were able to see me and the baby in the recovery room right away. In the debrief the doctor told me I had almost no fluid left, so it was the right decision to get him out when we did. Also, I had minimal scar tissue and my uterus looked good, should I chose to have one more. DH seemed to get a little woozy at that suggestion, lol.
No regrets going with another c/s. Recovery has even going well, and he's nursing like a champ. I only needed Motrin the first couple days, and we've already been out for a few walks. They managed my anesthesia better this time too, so I wasn't nauseated and could do skin-to-skin immediately in the operating room.
Here's our little guy! Thank you again for the well wishes and support! (And a shout out to Brie and humpforfree. If you hadn't shared your experiences, I wouldn't have been as assertive at my appointment that something didn't seem right.)
Congrats! What a great story and thank goodness you listened to your instincts. Glad your rcs went well - I love reading about them since I will likely do the same for hypothetical baby #2.
Love the pic of your kiddos together - congrats again!

Congratulations! I am super jealous of the OR skin to skin! I actually just asked my doc about that last week and she said we cannon a case by case basis if I have another CS. I am still so amazed at the timing of you being able to catch your H locally between flights!
