A taxi from the cruise port to the airport is going to be far cheaper than doing a shuttle service (15 passenger van). It's $17 for the taxi, $50 if we did the shuttle.
We won't have a car seat with us. We're flying into FLL and using the hotel's shuttle service. How strict do you think the taxi drivers will be about not having a car seat?
CloudBee he won't be 40lbs yet (he's not even 35lbs now). But that's certainly a thought.
FWIW I have no problem with him riding without one, we'd do the same in Chicago or NYC without a second thought. I just happened to be looking up transportation options and one of the cab companies specifically said that they don't provide car seats and that they follow FL law on them.
I thought it was fine in a taxi here without one, but last week when I tried to take a cab with the baby in the carrier and hold DD1 on my lap the driver wasn't going to take us. We had the seat for her, but we are so close to the airport I didn't feel like dealing with it. Flameable, probably. The last time we did the same thing the driver didn't say anything.

I'm doing a bit of reading on Cruise Critic and apparently they are cracking down on it with taxi drivers. Passenger vans of 10+ people don't require one. Looks like we may end up having to go that route or get a Bubble Bum and hope the driver doesn't question his weight.

I just looked again. They changed the law in January and they are required, even in cabs. I think I looked it up last summer and it was not the law at the time.

A Turbobooster highback breaks down and can be packed fairly easily. It will fit a smaller child a lot better. The Bubblebum and other backless boosters are problematic for smaller kids because it is not always possible to get the shoulder belt down to the right level using the adjustable guide (the belt needs to be on their shoulder, not on their neck or across their face).
There is a foldable carseat called the IMMI Go, but it is $200.
Thanks. We may go this route. It's good for 10 years, which will be the replacement seat for when he outgrows my Evenflo Triumph. It's only 8lbs too, so that's not too bad to haul around the airport or off the ship (we do self-disembark).
See if you can find a used RideSafer Vest. I LOVE MINE. It's perfect for situations like this. 30lbs and up.
I saw those earlier online but had to do some reading on it because it looked intimidating to get on and properly secured. I'm glad to hear someone has had a positive experience with this-do you have the 2 or the 3? This would be much more convenient than a booster.
It is very very easy to use. DS loves it too- he thinks he's hot stuff when he gets to use it.
It is seriously one of the best inventions for preschooler and young school-aged kids, and no one IRL has ever heard of it! I love mine so much. I think I said that already. :-P

I'm pretty sure I could tell DS it's like what astronauts (or whatever person is the favorite of the week) wear and he would never take it off LOL

Oh there have definitely been "race-car driver" comments….
I know it's expensive but it is good until 60lbs, so I expect to get a lot of use out of mine. Hope it works for you!
