We have one similar to the first and it is fine, I got it on sale and Ds plays with it almost daily.
The kid kraft ones are nice bc there is some built in storage for all the food etc. and they are also just nicer looking!
We have a bunch of play food from Costco that is awesome and was not expensive. We also have some Melissa and Doug wooden cutting food that is nice - though it hurts when thrown . I think his favorite kitchen items are the mini mixer, coffee maker, and blender he has. Also from Costco last year.

We have a kid kraft one- retro vintage something is the name. It's in our main living area, and both kids play with it every single day. It was a 1st birthday gift for DD.
I disagree on accessories making the kitchen. We have fancy Melissa and Doug food stuff and pots and pans, and boxes and egg cartons from real food, and it doesn't seem to matter that we have all those things to play with, because DD prefers using puzzle pieces and stirring them around in the sink and pots and pans. It drives me crazy!
I have the first one and we paid $10 for it at a years sale. It's fine and has a smaller profile and DD loves it. I do love the look of he second one better but there's not as many places to put things. We have friends that have it and I'm amazed at how quickly it fills up.
