On the one hand I want to encourage her to stop eating when full or not eat dinner if she isn't hungry.
On the other hand, I don't believe her lol. I mean she says she's not hungry at dinner but then immediately after, she is hungry but for yogurt, or fruit etc.
I know yogurt and fruit are fine and healthy to eat and she snacks on those all day but I also want to instill in her that at dinner time we eat meats and vegetables etc, I don't want her to think ok I just won't eat any dinner, then I'll get as much fruit, yogurt and crackers as I want instead.
It's so hard!
I've just been saying to her, it's ok to not eat dinner! If you aren't hungry, you don't have to eat anything at all. But then i'll also let her know that this is what we are eating, and if she isn't hungry for that she couldn't be hungry for other things like yogurts, fruits, treats etc.
She is always trying to ask for treats but I read you aren't supposed to say "if you eat X you can have a treat!" but she wants treats and doesn't want dinner so by default that is what we say? I mean it just makes sense to me that if you don't eat any dinner then you can't have something sweet.

It's so confusing.
My son usually stops eating, because he claims he isn't hungry. I just leave his plate in the table and 20 minutes later, when he is hungry again he goes back to it. We do one treat a day. They can have it whenever (something small and sweet like 10 chocolate chips), but once they have it there are no more treats.
