Is this for your trip? I bought a pair of Vans like this in gold from J. Crew this spring for our Brussels/Amsterdam/Paris trip. No regrets, so no scorn from me.

I don't think they're terrible, but I'd probably look for a Vans version. They are basically the classic Vans slip on design, so I feel like even if they aren't the best looking going with the Vans version makes them more acceptable.

In theory, for trip -- although walking 5 miles/day is a common occurrence in my everyday life so I'd say general comfortable out and about shoes for fall.
My Toms are very worn out at this point so I'm looking for a (more comfortable) shoe to fill that spot.
I am also considering the purchase of a pair of shoes that are from the Taylor Swift collection for Keds, so I don't trust my judgment at all at this point.

Okay, since this thread has not been a flamefest so far I'll just slip these in for comment (assume removal of gold charm and perhaps replacement of laces)
Are Vans hard to pull off as part of an otherwise super preppy outfit?
sam edelman makes pairs that are slightly less "90s skater" than vans. Â i have a pair. Â no shame/flame from me. Â
so do a bunch of other designers. Â just google a few slip-on sneaker and you'll find a bunch. Â
I can't remember the designer anymore (I want to say Tory Burch, yet I'm almost as sure it wasn't), but someone make a great looking very sleek, gorgeous pair but I couldn't justify the high price because I didn't think I'd wear them outside the trip. We went in May, I've worn them once since (but it's always been hot).
Anyway, I paired mine primarily with skinnies, blazers and tanks, but you can definitely wear preppy clothes with them. This is the post made me go ahead and get them.

If Keds have a removable insole so that I can put my custom old lady orthotics in, you know I'd be ALL OVER THIS SHIT.
Fuck, we have guys who wear shorts in my office. I could totally rock these with jeans and a sweater.
If you are going for a super preppy outfit, why not something like sperrys? But of course, I'm in the land where preppy automatically means boat shoes (aka Annapolis).
Vans, to me, say 90s grunge - perhaps bc that's when I wore them lol. And every old is new/cool again, so go for it.
Like tacosforlife I'm all about comfort and support over looks, although I try to hit the better side of looks.

I'd love to go with the Sperry version of these (my nephew's are Sperry's!) but I can't find them on the internet in normal navy canvas -- only in mesh and weird colors. I'd really like navy.
If you mean why don't I buy other styles of shoes -- I have Sperry boat shoes so I'm set in that regard. I'm looking for a sneaker-y thing this time around.
I should mention that I'm open to any brand. Navy canvas is a must. Any pair that is preppy-friendly, comfortable, and MM is a contender so please feel free to continue to share other options!
I have some slip-on Sketchers that sound like what you describe. I initially bought them while pregnant last summer because I couldn't deal with anything but slip-on, but I've since worn them all around NYC, Paris and London. They've taken a beating for the last year & change and are only now starting to kind of come apart.

I think I missed the navy canvas requirement when I thought sperrys. I was thinking comfort and preppy
