Because it happened. I decided to brave a 1 hr flight with DD as a lap toddler and I am traveling alone. She has puked endless times in her car seat so we don't travel much to begin with but I didn't see this coming today. She ate a banana, a few goldfish and 2 oz of milk when we got on, all normal for her. Halfway into the flight it all came out. I'm not sure why, I suspect a combo of being upset that she was cramped in the seat and motion sickness. I had a pack of Windex wipes and Pampers wipes in my bag and was able to wipe us and everything else down and I had a plastic bag to collect all the wipes so it was clean. But the smell. And our poor seat neighbor, luckily it didn't get on her. When I told the flight attendants as we were getting off the plane that DD had puked, apparently they had to call in some special clean up procedure.
Been there. Except it was the one and only time we took a car seat on an airplane. And it was also the one and only time we didn't have any extra clothes. So we cleaned up as best we could for the 4 hour flight (of course it happened on take off). The best we could do was strip 2 year old DD down and wipe the car seat.
Then we were the parents frantically running through the Houston airport with a naked 2 year old and a car seat that left a faint smell of vomit behind it to find anywhere that sold 2T or close clothes so we didn't have a naked 2 year old on our next flight.
In our case it was caused by a rancid yogurt drink she drank right before the flight and she's never repeated ever again. And she's traveled a lot since then.

Oh no! We had a similar experience with DD in June - we had her carseat with us and she puked EVERYWHERE, like a shit ton of milk before we took off. We ended up throwing away the car seat so we wouldn't have to fly next to it. I'm sorry it happened to you too
ugh, poor you. Airplane barf is the worst. The smell just lingers.
DS2 threw up 20 minutes into our 6hr flight to Hawaii. He was on my lap looking over my shoulder at the people behind us. He was all smiley and making faces at them. Then all of a sudden it was barf everywhere. It went down my back, into the seat crack onto the bag of the lady behind us. I was soooo mortified. It smelled awful. Thank goodness I brought an extra shirt for myself. He barfed again at the 3 hr mark, onto my pants and his blanket and a couple more times after that. By the end of the flight I was just wearing my jacket as a shirt and there were puke stains on my pants. I'm never traveling without kids Gravol again.
This is literally my worst nightmare. Puking at home is bad enough but to deal with it on an airplane is even more traumatic. Hopefully the rest of the trip was good!
Ugh, I'm so sorry. I dealt with that last month. DD2 was luckily in her own seat and we didn't bring her car seat on board for that flight. Thank god. Exorcist style vomit every where. On the wall, on the seat, on her. She had a blanket on and I caught the puke in it and then tossed it in a bag the flight attendant gave me. She also gave me plastic gloves and a metric ton of paper towels and wet wipes. I didn't put clothes on her until we landed just in case she puked again because I didn't have another outfit. So, she slept on me for the rest of the flight in just a diaper. I was so fucking scared she was going to puke on my face.

Ugh. I'm sorry.
M puked all over himself and me as we were landing in South Korea last year. I was SO thankful it was at the end of the 14 hour flight because OMG it was everywhere.
Thank you all for sharing your stories! My biggest fear was being stuck on the plane or endlessly delayed but I hadn't even thought of the possibility of her puking. No more flights in DD's future for now.
OMG, you poor mommies - I am so sorry!!! I've had DD3 puke on car rides half way through long car trips, but I can't imagine dealing with it in a confined space like a plane! I was worried DD3 would do this on our trip to Disney earlier this year, but I had brought children's Dramamine just in case. Didn't have to use it thankfully. You all definitely deserve an endless supply of wine for dealing with that

I actually hauled DD down to the lobby after we settled in ISO alcohol, but their bar didn't open until 5 pm and it was barely 1 pm!
