I have every other Friday off from work. Tomorrow is my day off but I have a bunch of errands to run and frankly, could use some time to myself. I plan to send J to daycare at least for the morning.
Am I stupid to pick him up right after lunch and try to get him to nap almost immediately upon arriving home? Should I just leave him there until after nap and pick up around 3?

Okay, thanks. This is what I thought. DH was laughing that I am bringing him at all and said, "So wait. I thought you don't work every other Friday so you can spend time with him?" Shut up, DH. You don't know.

Or, since you have every other Friday off, choose one Friday where you pick him up at 5:00 so you can have some me time. Make the other Friday a mommy-and-me day...or afternoon!
Leave him! He either naps in his crib at home or at DC. It's not really quality time either way, so I'd leave him.
Also, I'm also team DCP thinks it's annoying. She really discourages unless you're leaving town for the weekend, have a crisis or doctor's appt..lol. She says it leads it to 20 minutes of "Where did X go!?" When she's trying to get 14 kids down for nap.

The other option is to take him right before lunch. You get to spend a happy morning with him, they deal with feeding and cleanup and nap, and you get him at 3 or 5, whenever. I did this a few times in the summer and it was great.

Well it's not like you can spend quality time with him while he's napping anyway. Pick up after nap with no guilt!
We always leave C at daycare for nap, then pick him up afterward (so, like 2:30) if we're home. But honestly? A lot of times, if we're just gonna hang out at the house, we just let him finish out the day at daycare and pick him up normal time. Flameful? He really needs routine, and we like having time to do adult stuff, or even clean the house, do laundry, take a shower etc without having a toddler to look after.
I mean you pay anyway so I generally send even if I have a day off. The best is that one day a year that both h and I are off and daycare opens. Maybe it's Mlk day I can't remember. This year we went day drinking at a local dive bar. it was wonderful
Let him nap! When dd2 was in daycare, there were many days when I could have picked her up earlier...but I knew I'd likely be interrupting her nap and that wouldn't be good for anyone. I always felt a tiny bit of guilt but really, it was the best thing for all of us! Enjoy your alone time
