Is this a crazy person thing to do?

ETA: I just realized how effing close Christmas actually is, and even if I'm PG right now, it would be too soon to announce like this. In my mind, I was all, "Christmas cards! That's like, five months away!" Nevermind, carry on, thank you for the mixed feedback and indulging my crazy moment for the day.

Tell me straight. I'm actually a little embarrassed to be asking this - it feels like that girl who books her wedding venue before she has a ring. 

We are getting pictures taken tomorrow. Two year pics for Ben, and we're going to take a few family shots. I want to have them ready for Christmas cards. 

We are actively TTC - like, meds, everything. I really hope we see some luck soon, and if we do, I'd love to announce via a family pic on our Christmas cards with B in a "big brother" t-shirt. The timing could be perfect. Obviously I'm not pregnant yet, but I don't know that I really want to pay for another session, and I don't trust a non-pro to get a great family shot. This would just be one shot, we'd do a quick shirt change for him. 

If I don't get pregnant, we don't use the shots. I won't be sad. If I do, then we have them - nice pics for cards. 

Is that insane? If I'm not pregnant now (I'm in the 2WW), am I always going to look at that picture and go, I wasn't even pregnant then? 

My H, surprisingly, didn't think this was a terrible idea, but I don't even know how I would handle this with the photographer. Lie and say I'm pregnant, because it would be easier that explaining all that? Tell her my crazy idea?

Personally I wouldn't do it, because if I ended up not pregnant this cycle I think I would look back & be sad at the photo. And (while completely irrational) I would also probably find myself thinking that I somehow jinxed it.

Haha. I wouldn't do this, but if it will make you feel better to have a nice picture then go for it.

I do more than one picture in our Xmas cards, so you could do the family pic and then just do a picture of Ds in his shirt if the timing works out?

I don't think this is crazy. If it is not going to make you sad if you do not get pregnant, then I say go for it. No harm done. And no one needs to know :-) except for us

I wouldn't do it. Just because you're TTC doesn't mean that even if you DO get pregnant that the timing will be right to announce via Christmas card. And if your families knew you had the pic taken before finding bout you were even pregnant? I dunno.....

I get that if it doesn't work out, you out wouldn't use that image.....just for me, I wouldn't personally feel comfortable doing it. But if you do, then go for it.

When you do get pregnant, are you planning on maternity, newborn, etc, pictures? If so, and you have a photographer in mind, you could always ask if s/he could do a mini-session for an announcement picture. I bet a lot of photographers would be willing to do that if you were also committing to a bigger package (especially if that bigger package included multiple sessions) later on.

I don't think I'd feel like I 'jinxed' it - I'm just not superstitious enough for that

We will, but might not use this photographer. I like her fine because she's relatively inexpensive, but I would splurge for the photographers that did our wedding and B's first year pics again. They are amazing but expensive, so we're trying a less experience person this time

I probably would. Do you have enough time that you would feel comfortable announcing in a Christmas card? I usually send mine out in early Dec.

I would also make sure your photog knows not to post that one on her blog or FB. I would explain it just like you did here. I wouldn't think you were crazy.

If you don't want to let your friend in on it before you send out the cards I'm sure there's a local MMMer that would snap a pic for you...

This is of course assuming that MMM would know about your BFP before your cards go out...

I lean no, just because it would bug me that my kid would potentially be noticeably younger than he should be in the photo if say you get PG a few months from now. Or the season would be wrong, with pics of sunny green grass outside when it should be fall leaves or bare trees, and then people could be like wait, when is the baby due, and WHEN did she find out?

I would maybe do it but then only use it if you are actually PG now/this cycle (fingers crossed for you!) and scrap it otherwise.

ETA I'm just now realizing that xmas is only like 3 months away (holy shit) so I guess it would have to be the latter in any case, duh. Ignore me!

If you would feel better with this picture in your "back pocket", go for it. It doesn't affect anyone else, and will take 2 seconds of the photographer's time.

I wouldn't. Even if a 2ww now turned into a BFP this month, I wouldn't be Christmas-card-announcement-ready 3 months from now. At ~3 months it wasn't a secret, but I wasn't mailing out announcements either. If it took even one more cycle after this one, I would still be in the "secret" phase.

Then there's the whole jinxing/superstitious angle, and how I'd feel looking at that picture in the future if I didn't get to use it. I think it would make me pretty sad. On balance, not worth it.

You're right about that - Christmas is closer than I thought, man. I guess I feel like it's still summer. 

In my head, I was all, "oh, I'll be like four months when we send out cards". 

I'm apparently losing my mind all over the place, here.
