No. Too much risk of hearing loss even with ear plugs. Plus, what 2 year old will leave something on that long? Get a sitter.
Really? We took him to a show at Red Rocks earlier this summer and he happily wore them the whole time. We sat up high (and would for this). We're going to another show in a few weeks with him, and he's already talking about it.
Your kid, your call. You know the venue. You know your baby. If it really isn't going to be that loud, then you know that. Are these ear muffs just fluffy winter muffs or are they specifically for noise reduction?
But honestly, wouldn't *you* have more fun without the kid?
If it's an outdoor show and you know your kid well enough to say that he'll be okay through the end of it (based on bedtime and potential for meltdown), I wouldn't hesitate.
But we took our 7 month old to his first music festival last month, and will raise him on jam festivals.
I'm all for taking your kids to shows if they enjoy it, but I wouldn't do a phish show. Every person I know that goes to a phish show is at least smoking weed and at most tripping their balls off. Sure, a 2 y/o doesn't know who's high and who's weird, but I would feel funny about it.
Sure as long as you have the ear muffs (and LOL that she was putting winter ear muffs on her kid).
And the crowd should be fine - I go to DMB concerts, not Phish, but similar crowds (ETA without the acid apparently). Everyone is old. Some drunk, some high, lots sober. And old. You will be fine. We just saw DMB in CO last weekend - more pot than normal in the seats, but nothing too bad and I would think/hope that if people saw you with the baby they wouldn't smoke right next to you.
I wouldn't want to have to deal with a 2 year old myself, but I fall into the drunk category at concerts!
Most outdoor venues have family sections where it's tamer; other kids to dance around with. As long as the kid's temperament is conducive to a big event, they should be fine.

They're designed for this. Not just winter ear muffs. (They probably have a real name, but that's what we've been calling them...)
It's an outdoor venue, but I've never been there.
I doubt we'd stay the whole time, but bc I can't hang and stay up late anymore. Having him with sounds more fun to me than without - I'd either wear him or he'd stand and dance, depending on the space.
I don't want to harsh anyone else's mellow, or have him stoned out of his gourd either, though. lol
Dick's Sporting Goods Park gets a little nuts during the Phish concerts. I know a lot of people who work out there who said they've been very dizzy from all the smoke. I wouldn't take any child to that.

Apparently, two players ended up with needles in their shoes on one of the practice fields the following week of last year's show. They ended up cancelling practice to thoroughly clean all the fields.

Maybe it depends on the specific crowd/venue, but at the outdoor venue near where I live, if you sit in the back or around the edges things are pretty mellow. People are chilling on blankets, the crowd isn't so dense, etc. Sure, people are drinking and maybe passing a joint or something, but they're not getting crazy. It's not like there are tripping-balls-drunk people EVERYWHERE lol.
eta, I'm sure it gets crazy down by the stage and in the more densely crowded areas...I wouldn't take my kid down there. I agree that there are probably lots of stupid people doing stupid drunk/whatever things, but I guess my point is I think that "environment" can be somewhat avoided in some venues.

WTF?
exactly my reaction during the meeting I was at this week.
I do not bring my kids to Phish shows ever. I have no problem with kids at shows but it's not my choice because Phish is my "me" time--I would not enjoy myself at the show if I was looking after either of my kids there. ESPECIALLY my 2 year old who is a tiny hellion.
If you do go, definitely stay in a more sparsely populated area and have ear protection at all times. Do not be the guy I saw repeatedly bringing his 2 year old to the rail without ear protection at Magnaball. Asshole.
Are you talking about Dick's btw? I am about to get on a plane for Denver in 2 hours. My kids will be at home with their dad. If you see a curly haired brunette in a "cuddly but muscular" tank and/or a Fishman donut skirt say hi! I am on the field all 3 nights
My kid has been to five Phish shows, starting from when he was two months old. It can be done depending on the venue. All five we went to has a non-smoking family section on the lawn with a ton of families spread out on blankets. You are pretty set back from seeing anything other than the Jumbotron but you can tag off with your partner or just enjoy the vibe.
We wanted to go to the festival this summer but now that he's two he's much more intense so we decided it was too much work. Last summer he played with glow sticks for the first set and then slept the rest of the show. Those were the days.
Lots of people take their kiddos to Dicks. My friends take their two kids (five and three) every year. They just sit up in the stands. We took our kid for one set when he was four (and the babysitter, who took him home at set break). People are very respectful of children, actually.
And lol to a contact high. Not possible, especially in an outdoor venue. It's a soccer stadium! There is plenty of fresh air.
The pot haze is at the outdoor ones too. I would not take a child into that air quality.
I think that's an excessive concern.
These events are policed, so people tend to be on the d/l about it rather than blowing shotguns in every baby's face. I think there's probably a greater concern for excessive contact to car exhaust in the venue's parking lot.
op, if you don't want your kid around that kind of venue and crowd, then don't. I just have a hard time labeling it as a dangerous place for kids.
Also I have to say the vast majority of Phish's fan base are grown ups in their 30s and 40s who are responsible and have families and jobs and stuff. It is not a rave and your kid will not get a contact high. Some of the responses in this thread are really laughable.
OP if you bring your kid you'll be in good company and your child will remain sober and not be abducted by a wandering hippie. I promise.

I suppose if my kid were to be abducted by anyone... let it be them.
Why? Because there are a lot of events that I could see taking a baby to. A Phish concert wouldn't be on that list for all the reasons others have mentioned.

I noticed this at the last show I went to. I remember thinking everyone looked so old (like me). lol
