Sometimes plants aren't labeled accurately. I once bought quart container butterfly bushes that promised me a perennial 3'x 3' and planted accordingly on Mother's Day. By 4th of July I needed a machete to access the front door.
I ended up removing 2 of the 3 I bought which filled the space without overwhelming it. I successfully transplanted one of those. For some plants a hard prune can keep them size-appropriate for their space, the butterfly bush and my English laurel get this treatment. I couldn't do this with my "Dwarf" gold mops, so they had to go.
I think I am going to have to transplant at least three of them. I guess the nice thing is that if they don't survive or thrive, my foundation beds will still look full.
I really wish I was better at gardening.
You're good at gardening.
You've planted things. Your plants are doing well. You recognize when transplanting needs to be done, and you're ready to tackle it.
That makes you more engaged and more astute than most people. Bravo!
