DOVER, Del.- Authorities say three employees of a Dover day care center are facing charges after an investigation revealed that they encouraged 3-year-old children to fight each other.
Dover police detectives on Monday arrested three employees of Hands of Our Future LLC Day Care, located at 868 S. State St. Police said an investigation led to their arrests after detectives viewed cell phone video of an incident that occurred in March, in which the three employees watched and encouraged two 3-year-olds to fight each other while at the day care.
The three employees were identified as 19-year-old Tiana Harris of Dover; 21-year-old Estefania Myers of Felton and 47-year-old Lisa Parker of Dover. Each was charged with second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree reckless endangering and conspiracy. The three suspects were released after posting $10,000 bond each.
Hands of Our Future has had its City of Dover business license suspended pending a hearing, investigators said.
Capt. Tim Stump of the Dover Police Department said the video was "infuriating" to watch. He said, "Just to give you the tone of what the video was about, one child starts screaming because the other child is pinching him and one of the adults yells, 'No pinching, only punching.'"
A meeting was held Monday night at the Dover Police Department for parents or legal guardians of children who attended the day care. The purpose of the meeting was to answer questions and help guide parents in finding day care arrangements.
Parents were not shown the video at the meeting because police said it is still considered evidence. Cristyl Slack said her daughter was in the class when the fighting took place and she will be allowed to see the video at a later date.
