I know this will vary, based on your doctor's recommendations, but I was just curious what you and/or your SO/DH may do.
I'm technically pre-diabetic as my A1C is 5.7. My former internist wanted to be aggressive, and put me on a low low dose of metformin. I hesitated, but have a very bad family history of diabetes, and I already have high blood pressure, so I went on it. Thanks, genetics.
Anyway, I talked to my new doctor about getting off of metformin, and he said we could see how my blood sugars do for a month, and then we can discuss. He gave me a monitor, with no real instructions.
Thus far, I've been trying to do it upon waking, and at least one pre/post meal, though I think I'm doing the post-meal, to close to when I eat.
I know this is a personal question, so if you don't want to share on the board and would rather PM, I understand.

My husband is diabetic (T1) and he tests upon waking, before eating, before exercising, and before bed. He also tests after meals (at least an hour) if he is feeling off, and any time during the day he feels low.

My H is the same. He also wears a pump.
I quoted you because I wanted to tell you I'm up to 30 seconds a side NO MODIFICATION. Only one set, but...it felt like a big accomplishment.

I was moving towards pre-diabetes 2 springs ago so I kept an eye on things since I was TTC. I tested morning fasted and 1hr post meals (from the start of eating). I sometimes tested pre meal and post activity so I could see how things went up and down depending on foods I ate and level of activity.
By the time I got pg with DS late summer I lowered my A1C about 1pt (from 5.9 to 5.0) and passed all of the GD testing. I think it helped that I lost my FT desk job so I didn't sit on my ass so much. I also avoided foods that resulted in #s over 140 1hr post meal (120 while pg).
