Blake has not been accused of any crime. In fact, the NYPD has since apologized to him for throwing him to the ground and leaving him in cuffs for 10 to 15 minutes. The officer who attacked him has been placed on desk duty.
Blake said Friday that he does not accept the apology.

Ridiculous. No excuse for this. Absolutely NONE.
I dare someone to try and day, what he shouldn't have been doing and this wouldn't have happened. Add standing around texting to the list of things we can't do.
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley
I'd love to see a photo of the actual suspect vs. Blake.
ETA: this wasn't acceptable. I'm just curious.
They showed a picture on ABC and they did look a lot alike, but still, all of that force wasn't necessary.
I agree they look alike, but what that cop did was so many different ways of wrong. Like black lavender said, what would have happened if he had "resisted" at all. And by resist, I mean acting like any rational person would when being attacked like that.
ETA: Also, what if it hadn't been caught on camera. I can't even.

Because yall know me and my brain sticks on things......THIS is what you do to a credit card thief minding his business? You don't just say "dude you are under arrest" and do the Miranda stuff? You gotta take him down? All that is missing is a dramatic stop drop and roll.
That's how they arrest someone for suspected credit card fraud? Wtf?! Nevermind that neither their suspect nor Blake were actually involved, I'm aghast that those detectives think that type of arrest is okay. Why the excessive and dramatic force? THIS IS NOT THE DAMN MOVIES!
If this is the baseline for dealing with alleged crime then I guess I see how people get shot for asking a question. I feel like you need mental help if this is your approach in life.
And how does Blue Lives Matter feel about this? You can't get a better example of excessive force and respectability politics in one story than this here. I want to hear from those who think POC are making a mountain out of a molehill

My local paper's FB post had comments about it all being just a sad case of mistaken identity. As if this was appropriate behavior on the officer's part if it weren't a case of mistaken identity. I checked because I'm in an area heavily populated by NYPD and was curious how people would excuse this.

I have no doubt people will comment about how a few rogue cops do not represent all the "good" ones. Not all cops and such.

Some people just don't get it, and will always find an excuse to excuse horrible and inappropriate behavior.
Mistaken identity or not, that is not how you approach a suspect in general, and definitely not for ID theft. And five officers, come on.
This on top of the fact that the person they thought he was, was innocent too. Also, let's not forget the main officer already had four excessive use complaints.
Face reality defenders, this is not just a sad case of mistaken ifentity. Everything about this was wrong.
