I would wish that much Rush Limbaugh on no man.
I am grateful every day that my parents are pretty progressive. My future in-laws are largely disinterested, so that works too, lol.
My aunts and uncles, however - well, let's just say that I've been the subject of one or two Christmas-party "interventions." ("WTFaulkner, do you know that being a Democrat means that you like abortion?" "Don't you know that people abuse welfare?").
My prayers are with you, TBob. I've been thinking about you lately (not in a creepy way, lol). I hope all is well with you.

Are you sure you're not related to me somehow? Maybe my parents had another kid that they didn't tell me about? LOL I could have written your post for you verbatim @trickybob
My dad is liberal who listens to fox news When I tried to explain to him about how horrible Fox news was, he tried to convince me that their news is very fair and balanced. I don't understand how this works!!!! Do brain cells start dying when you hit 60??
I could have written your post about my dad last year. He adores Rush and Fox News would be running when Rush wasn't on. He died last winter, so I'm not sure how I'd be able to handle it if he turned into a Trump supporter too!
Deal with listening to Rush from 12pm-3pm every day. He makes my brain cells pop.
My parents are Trump fans, I weep for them lol
My Dad has given me several "do not vote dem!!" Talks already
I told them I identify more with independent. They were aghast.
I have opted for ignoring political talk.
God love them but my word. If it isn't Rush, it is Fox news. All day, erry day.
Sometimes I look back at my teen years and am embarrassed for 17 year old self thinking "ya! republican!"
Cause. No. 25 year old me is embarrassed by republicans.
My father blames human services and welfare and illegal immigrants for my thoughts.
Lol wut
the 60+ crowed is hard, man.
I could have written this nearly word for word, except I don't have to listen to rush, thank god. My parents are hard core republicans and the stuff they post on FB makes my blood pressure rise. Their current favorite thing to hate is welfare. Yet, after my dad retired he decided to work for the census for awhile as something to do with his time. They ended his assignment early because they didn't need him anymore, so he filed for and received unemployment. And he filed and received an extension, so he was able to receive it for as long as possible. He didn't need the money, he's just a greedy person who wanted it, yet looks down on people who genuinely need to receive welfare to get by. This blows my mind!

<ahem> 56 here and I'm not about to turn into a Fox News advocate.
I tried to point out to my dad that Fox news left a LOT of information out, which didn't quite make it fair an balanced. I think it went in one ear and out the other.
My dad always has 'The Five' on in the afternoon and it makes me want to rip my hair out.
But like you, I came out of their house being super republican at age 18. Cringeworthy for me now.
I also left home a republican. And military and christian on top of that. To say I was narrow in my thinking.....yeah. I'm embarrassed about it, but also proud that I was able to use my brain and decide for myself where my political preferences are. I'm ashamed that, as recent as 5 years ago, I was against same-sex marriage. I have since come to my senses.
My dad, even at his advanced age, has recently shut off the Faux news, and become a registered Independent. I was so surprised when he said this, I thought I was going to fall over. He does still lean conservative, but he's willing to listen to differing opinions.
ETA: The recent crop of Republicans makes me ashamed to have ever considered myself Republican.
