So we moved to Ohio 6 months ago, and I know you are supposed to get a new drivers license within 30 days, but seriously, who has time for that when you just moved? Anyway, I obviously didn't take care of that right away.
You have to have an ohio license for 60 days to vote. Wtf? In MN I swear all I had to do was show up with a piece of mail in my name on election day. Anyway, I digress. So I go to get an Ohio license and also to get new license plates. I have to have a certified birth certificate, and all I have is a copy. So I have to figure out if the state of TX, where I was born, can get that to me (probably with some rush fee) so I can get a license. Then I can't get the title of the car changed to an Ohio title because my mom is still on it from college (which MN didn't care about) but OH needs me to have a power of attorney from her (mailed in snail mail of course, can't be faxed or scanned!) so that I can sign off and get the title changed over.
I realize it is mostly my own fault for not taking care of this right away when how over, but how is this not a barrier to voting? If I had an actual job, lol, or didn't have the spare money to spend mailing crap and paying rush fees, etc, and the patience and time to deal with this (figuring out the above took two separate trips to the DMV, because they of course didn't tell me about the title thing the first time I was there!) how could I possibly accomplish it?
