Apparently there are a substantial number of people who stream Netflix while at work.
Work servers have been crashing, so IT sent out an email asking people to limit the non-discretionary use of outside sites during this time. They specifically said streaming sites, with Netflix being the top offender.
LOL. That is why we can't stream anything - not necessarily bc it is not work-related, but because of the server usage- Pandora, all that is blocked.
My mom streams Christmas music and broadway music on youtube apparently and has gotten emails from IT to stop it (we have youtube blocked but apparently her agency is a bit behind in that regard) because she is using up so much bandwidth apparently. She just ignores the emails because she wants to retire so doesn't really care. LOL.
Ha. This might give away too much about where I work, but we have a whole dedicated wifi network for streaming video. So we have plenty of bandwith for non-work related streaming. I had two VPs (including my boss) in my cube watching live streaming olympics.
We have two screens at our desks and I know people who stream netflix on their second computer. I do run spotify all day, but it's approved at our office.
We did once have a guy call into IT and say their FB was stalling and they thought there was a problem. Now that was hilarious. He didn't get in trouble, btw.
