@majorwife
So, I'm horribly bad at keeping my house even remotely tidy. Like, bad. There's little filth, but lots and lots of random detritus that just... Gathers.
I'm admitting I have a problem as the first step to fixing it.
Now that I have full days, I'm attacking the problem, getting rid of things (TONS of things) and reorganizing all our storage, from kitchen cabinets to closets.
... But I need a schedule. A good one, something to keep me honest about what to do everyday, but that's also realistic about what I will be willing to do every day without fail (especially when I decide to get a job) ... So a reasonable amount of time on the daily.
Do you have a good one? Do you know of some good resources?
I do have a cleaning schedule. b.c of fucking course I do. lol
I have a list of tasks I do daily and then one day a week, I concentrate on one room in the house.
I use the following schedule but you can change it up to better suit your needs.
Daily Sweep and lightly mop the kitchen and bathroom floors Wipe out the bathroom and kitchen sink Make sure everything is put away where it belongs After dinner, wipe down the kitchen counters, stove, microwave and table Unload and load the dishwasher Make the bed Vacuum living room and hallway Replace kitchen towel and dish rag
Monday Vacuum master bedroom and closet Change sheets in master bedroom Dust all surfaces in master bedroom Wash whites Wipe down doors/doorknobs/switch plates
Tuesday Vacuum upholstery in living room Shake out rugs Dust all surfaces in living room Wash darks Wipe down doors/doorknobs/switch plates
Wednesday Mop floors in kitchen and dining room Clean fridge and appliances Dust all surfaces in kitchen/dining room Wash bedding Wipe down doors/doorknobs/switch plates Wash YD's clothes
Thursday Mop floors in bathroom Clean mirror, sink, tub and toilet Dust all surfaces in bathroom Wash bathmats and towels Wipe down doors/doorknobs/switch plates Wash LB's clothes
Friday Vacuum kid/guest bedroom and closet Change sheets in kid/guest bedroom Dust all surfaces in kid/guest bedroom Wash windows in house Wipe down doors/doorknobs/switch plates
Saturday Sweep and mop entryway Wash trash and recycle cans Wash dog food bowls
I found that, for me, cleaning one room top to bottom at a time is better for me than dusting the entire house every Tuesday and vacuuming the entire house every Monday.
Now, I am anal and started working in the food industry in high school, so its nothing for me to mop with the Swiffer and sweep the kitchen every night but you can skip that to once a week if you want.
I also do the kids clothes separate, just to help myself when folding and putting away.

When do you sleep?
She vacuums the living room daily. DAILY! I don't even vacuum my living room weekly.
I thought I was a clean person until I came into this thread.
I prefer cleaning the entire house on the weekend because I don't like to be cleaning all week. I just go hard for a few hours and then I'm done.
But according to that MM "what's your ideal SQF" thread, I live in a shack.
It turns out that I have struck up a decent deal. H hates going to the basement to do laundry in our building. So I do that on Saturday mornings and do a few little putzy chores while waiting for it. Meanwhile, he vacuumed and mopped the entire apartment, picked up the clutter, and wiped down the bathrooms. All because he hates going to the basement? OK, WORKS FOR ME!
while I do have shitty sleeping patterns, its not b.c I am cleaning. lol
all told, its maybe an hour of cleaning a day, but I break it up or do other things so its not that bad. I watch TV while I fold laundry or vacuum. I load and unload the dishwasher and wipe the counters while cooking. or when DH gives the kids a bath. after their bedtime, I clean whatever room for that day. I also have some time after the kids are at school/daycare before I have to be in the office, so I can clean.
so my house is clean.
but I am fat, so its a trade off.
I'm fat and my house is only clean about once every two weeks. *sobs*

I love our division of labor. We live on a wooded lot, so there's always yard work to be done and I DETEST yard work. I made a deal that I'd clean the whole house once per week if I didn't have to do any yard work. And that's what we do. I'll scrub toilets and vacuum and dust for the rest of my life if it means I don't have pull weeds!

Major does bring up a good point, though. I cook the vast majority of our food from scratch and we rarely eat out. There is absolutely NO way that I could do that AND clean like a fucking boss at the same time. Nope. Couldn't do it. There are simply not enough hours in the day.
I'm back with another question because Major's cleaning schedule is so foreign to my world. What happens if you have a commitment one night? Do that night's cleaning tasks go to the next one, or do you just stay up later, or what?

IIRC, MW works from home, so it's actually pretty easy to throw some laundry in the wash or change a bed or sweep the floors in between other things.
When I worked outside the house all the time, my schedule was similar to this:
Daily: make bed, pick up stuff lying around the house, wash dishes, wipe down kitchen counters
Tuesday: wipe down bathroom (sink and toilet if needed), dust mop floors Wednesday: load of laundry (clothes) Thursday: wipe down bathroom (sink and toilet if needed), dust mop floors
Saturday morning: full bathroom cleaning (tub, tile, floor, mirror, plus sink and toilet, organize cabinets, wash towels, bathmat and shower curtain if needed) 2 loads of laundry (clothes and bedding) dust mop/sweep and wet mop all floors dust if needed (in CA dust doesn't accumulate much) deep clean kitchen/fridge (throw out old food, organize and wipe out pantry, wipe down backsplash and microwave)
Once a month or so I would also do things like wipe or vaccuum baseboards and windowsills, wipe down switch plates (I don't have kids, they aren't that bad), wash slipcovers and curtains, pull out and reorganize seasonal items/under beds/closets, clean ceiling fans, and wash interior windows.
HTH.
Now that I work at home full time, it's no problem to dust mop or real mop or do laundry or strip the beds or even clean the bathroom during the week. If I get around to it.
I will also say that my husband does all the dishes, takes out the garbage, cleans the cat litter, feeds the cats in the morning, does most yard mowing, and trades off with me on things like cleaning the bathroom.
I still use the cleaning schedule I bought from @majorwife. And I multi-task my cleaning. So while dinner is in the oven I clean the counters, put away dishes, load dishwasher, sweep, etc. While DS1 is in the bath I clean his bathroom. While I blowdry my hair I wipe down my bathroom counters.

Oooh, I was all "THANK YOU mominatrix FOR ASKING THIS QUESTION BECAUSE NOW SOMEONE WILL POST A SCHEDULE AND I CAN JUST JUMP IN AND START FOLLOWING IT." Item one: I can wipe out a sink. Check. Item two: I can wipe out another sink. I can even climb a flight of stairs to do it. Check.
Item 3: OMG you mean I have to put all the stuff away? Then I was all

I recommend the Fly Lady method. They start you small with little tasks and routines and build up. Don't sign up for the e-mails though you will get inundated and they're kinda of... fanatical. Just take a look at their lists and slowly build up your routine. As in week 1) every night after dinner make sure the dishes are cleaned up and the sink is clean. That's it. Build the habit slowly so you don't get overwhelmed.

Sometimes I pull out the FlyLady schedule/concept. It's horribly cheesy (I mean HORRIBLY) and there are too many fucking emails if you don't opt out of lots of them but it's actually a really really effective way to take control without it feeling like aaaallll you do is clean. Helps if you can engage the kiddos and hubs too.

I got the stick Dyson thing a few years ago and it made me sooooo happy. Its pluged in behind a chair in my kitchen and I can clean the entire first floor in less than 10 mins without having to cart the vacuum up from the laundry room.
I'm also a bit ocd and I own that. I love a clean, neat, straightened house. My H is less in love with that so I take it on and can claim victory when the house is clean.
I deep clean the house every 2 months and it's hard core deep cleaning. In between the deep cleaning I vacuum carpets once a week and lightly dust once a week. Daily things like dishes and laundry happen as needed. Honestly I don't feel like our house gets that dirty. I also put everything back in its place once a week like DH's socks that are left in random rooms of the house or toys in the bathroom. I steam vac our living room and hall way carpet once a month and steam vac remaining carpets twice a year. I'm a minimalist so there isn't much clutter in our house except in DD's bedroom and toys in our family room.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”
Step 1: Marry well. My husband is a mostly SAHD/works part time and takes care of nearly all cleaning and laundry.
Step 2: Be lucky enough to afford a house cleaner.
Step 3: Give no fucks about a clean house. I prioritize my time else where.
Eta: I sounded bitchy. I am seriously impressed with people who can priortize cleaning. I'm a messy person, and I despise cleaning. I avoid it, clearly.

My routine: (Important things to know: every other week I have a cleaner who does the deep cleaning of the bathrooms, kitchen, windows, etc. I work 3 nursing shifts a week and am off the rest of the time. MH is home 2/3 days I work. I focus on clean over clutter.)
Daily: Run dishwasher at night (DD1 unloads in morning before school) Wipe down kitchen surfaces and stove. Pick up playroom and mop floor. Pick up family room. Wash a load of laundry (family of 5 that CDs, so I have to do a load daily.)
Sunday: Dining room (decluttering, mop floor, clean up dog area) Sort and deal with mail/pay bill Water plants Mop kitchen and bathrooms Monday: Wash linens (sheets, pillow cases, towels, duvets as needed) Vacuum every room that has carpet Tuesday: Surface clean bathroom (we have 2) My laundry Wednesday: DS laundry Thursday: DD1 and DD2 laundry Friday: Grocery shop Vacuum
Saturday: Surfaces in the kids' room (they help to ability) Any needed laundry, but this is MH's day to do his usually. Deal with school papers the kids have brought home for the week.
