I just booked a trip west this weekend because flying 3000 miles with two kids seemed more sane than dealing with Pope/UN traffic. Clearly.
We're flying into LAX Thurs night, staying in LA Thurs and Fri nights (Steve's working there), then heading to Orange County and staying with family in Laguna Hills or Capistrano Saturday and Sunday, and then flying home Monday afternoon. We'd love to do Disney one day but have no other plans.
1) is anyone around?
2) what should I do alone with two kids in LA on Friday?
3) can I get around LA without a car or do I need to rent one for the whole trip? My aunt and uncle have eleven vehicles for one driver (seriously), so I was hoping to borrow one when I got south.

You're amazing. And a bit insane, but mostly amazing.
Do you know where in LA you'll be? If you're near downtown, you could get by with metro, but if you're on the westside (Century City, Santa Monica, Westwood), it'll be harder without a car. It's doable, but not convenient at all.
thedahliharpa had good things to say about the California Science Center. You could also go to the beach/pier in Santa Monica if you're on that side of town.
We may be moving this week/weekend, but please keep me in the loop as to your plans. I would love to see you again.
Hmm...maybe this would be a good weekend for a lagoon get together.
I would love to see you guys! Sydney and I are free on Saturday afternoon. I am free (without Sydney) on Sunday morning and Sunday night (I have plans from 12-7). We have totally random plans all weekend.
Got more details. Staying Thurs/Fri night on Santa Monica strip. Friday open but will probably do beach (remember I grew up in Maine, so I'm not scared of cold water).
Going to Disney on Saturday with my family. Anyone is welcome to join. Staying in Laguna Hills Sat night.

Sunday is open. Staying in Laguna again.
Flight out of LAX Monday at noonish.
What is the Lagoon?
Lagoon is a man-made lake in thedahliharpa 's community. But she said if closes Sunday, does that mean last day or closed, closed?

The water felt great yesterday. We were all fully in it. We're blacked out Saturday too . Sunday I could come up

It's the last day it is open. I think the one by earlybird is closed Sunday for the association staff party but the one by me is open. I will call them when they open to confirm. But, I'm open to what the bigapple's want to do :-)
Since I won't have a child the majority of the weekend, I think everyone should leave their children with other caregivers and have a boozy brunch!
Eat Chow has mimosa flights, just sayin...I can go for the above or something with kids. If we were going to lagoon it would be easiest for me to host from 3-6ish.

You mean Sunday right? Because bigapple are you still Doing Disney Saturday? You should do Disney Sunday
I could probably do Disney Sunday if that's better for everyone.
Dumb question: how do you do boozy brunch if everyone has to drive? Are there cabs?
The lagoon sounds awesome.
Don't change plans just because of me! (I am not sure I could even get my husband to go) but maybe @jayhawkali is able to come Sunday too? I also think it will be quite a bit less crowded
It is going to be hot so maybe the lagoon is a good idea! thedahliharpa did you say Saturday or Sunday worked better for you for lagoon? Saturday I won't be able to come, looks like Stephanie is out for Sunday and if it's late afternoon we'll be out for Sunday too.
Everyone needs to cancel all plans and make gtg priority #1
If we do something on Sunday, I have to leave wherever we are by 11:30 (my mom is taking me to see Sound of Music in LA). I am free after 1 on Saturday. Sydney will be with me until about 5:00 on Saturday.

Sunday is better for a brunch or the lagoon. We have a Fing 1pm soccer game after gymnastics Saturday that is ruining my entire lyfe... bigapple, if we drink we Uber. The lagoon is also alcohol friendly.
