Scott Walker said to be quitting presidential race

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin has concluded he no longer has a path to the Republican presidential nomination and plans to drop out of the 2016 campaign, according to three Republicans familiar with his decision, who spoke on condition of anonymity.



Mr. Walker called a news conference in Madison at 6 p.m. Eastern time.



“The short answer is money,” said a supporter of Mr. Walker’s who was briefed on the decision. “He’s made a decision not to limp into Iowa.”



Mr. Walker’s intended withdrawal is a humiliating climb down for a Republican governor once seen as all but politically invincible. He started the year at the top of the polls but has seen his position gradually deteriorate, amid the rise of Donald J. Trump’s populist campaign and repeated missteps by Mr. Walker himself.



In the most recent CNN survey, Mr. Walker drew support nationally from less than one-half of one percent of Republican primary voters. He faced growing pressure to shake up his campaign staff, a step he was loath to take, according to Republicans briefed on his deliberations.

The crowded field and his lack of charisma are the culprits here. When he fell in Iowa, he was done.

He's Mr. Cellophane. (musical "Chicago" reference) It's funny because his enemies paint him as this towering figure of evil, but he is amazingly meek and unremarkable.

Like I said in another thread, accomplishment doesn't seem to matter much to the Republicans this time. All those Republican governors who seemed to do what their bases wanted are not doing the greatest. ex: Christie, Walker

Rubio could end up being the nominee.

My only disappointment with the early dropout is I think a few more months on national media scrutiny would have helped make him a non viable candidate for future elections. I think we have just scratched the surface with Scotty-scandal.

If the Democrats can't come up with someone good in 2018, I don't think a third term is out of the question. We're still so early in the cycle that a lot of people haven't paid much attention. If he'd managed to stay in through NH, a lot more people would have paid attention and realized how dumb our governor is. As it stands now, I'm not confident Democrats take back the statehouse in 2018.

I just saw the news alert about this. Can't say I'm sad. It's funny though, because I think he, along with Cruz probably had the most buzz entering the race. I mean, Bush had name recognition, but it seemed like a lot of people thought he and Cruz would be frontrunners.

I'm surprised at how quickly it happened. I would have thought he would have hung on a little longer and done a blitz. I mean even Jindal is hanging in there. I find it hard to believe Walker's money has really dried up.

I'm wondering if there is more to the story. Like news of a scandal about to break or some other really bad shit.

He canceled on speaking to the CA Rs at their convention this weekend and caused an uproar over that. There may be truth to your speculation.
