Not great news but not horrible I guess. The left kidney is slightly enlarged but structurally normal so they aren't worried about it. The right kidney is "moderate to severely" enlarged and not structurally normal so they are worried about an obstruction that would need surgery to fix. My AFI is on the higher end as well. In addition, the baby is measuring 1350 g (2 lbs 6 oz), normal for GA is 800 g. Overall measurements are 3-4 weeks ahead which is freaking me out since we obviously are sure of dates. I asked a lot about my diet and exercise since I've been so worried about weight gain and potential GD, but he thinks that since the baby has been measuring ahead all along and my glucose is normal whenever I check it, its genetic and not my diet. We go back to MFM in another 4 weeks.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
Sigh. Well, I'm glad one is normal and not worrisome (good thing we have two? not to make light of the situation).
Do you know how his size compares to his size at your anatomy scan?
A 4 week return date is a good sign since it says to me they want to watch it but aren't URGENTLY concerned. Have you had your GD test yet? What's AFI?
I know what you mean -- all in all, this isn't HORRIBLE but still of course tough. Baby was measuring about 2 weeks ahead at the last scan as well. I know the weight estimates can by off by a pound or so at the end, but percentage wise 7.5 vs 8.5 lbs is a lot different than 1.5 vs 2.5 lbs. I haven't had my GD test (two weeks) but I've been taking random glucose levels on my own and they have all been well under normal. So if I do have GD hopefully my current diet is managing it well. He didn't give me a number for AFI unfortunately, just said they will check it again and it was "too concerning."

I'm sorry you're having to deal with these worries. Glad to hear the news wasn't horrible. Sounds like they're watching you well, and you are obviously watching yourself well also. I hope your next MFM visit goes well.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!
((Hugs)) I agree with cookiemonster that not making an appointment for 4 weeks is a good sign. I'm sorry after everything you've been through the pregnancy is stressful as well.
I've been thinking of you and hoping I'd see your update before heading to bed. I'm sorry it wasn't overall great news. I hope your follow up appt brings more news for you.
FWIW, we are positive of our dates since we did IVF as well my baby has been measuring ahead regardless since my a/s at 20 weeks. Not enough to change DDs or anything, but about a week ahead. I know I have GD, but its been diet controlled for 10 weeks now and he still is measuring ahead regardless.
I'm sorry it wasn't in the "cleared up on its own" category.
Are there health risks for the baby due to its size? Are other babies in your family large?
My mom had 8 lb babies, so nothing huge. The MFM didn't say anything yet about size being a concern, but I'm worried they will ask for a scheduled C section. Macrosomia on its own wouldn't be an indication, but it does increase the risk of a c section. They have told me that because of my surgical history, if they had to do a c section they'd like to schedule one because they want 2 OBs and a general surgeon in the OR, which would be hard to get after hours during an emergency. My neighbor's son had the same issue and they did a c section because they didn't want pressure on his kidney during a vaginal. So, overall, I'm concerned that having multiple things that increase the risk of a c section will make them likely to schedule one vs risk an emergency c section. But I'm guessing we won't really discuss that for a couple of months.
I am sorry that the scan was not optimal but I also feel like a 4 week mfm appointment would make me feel better. I have found that you can really gauge things by how fast medical people are moving. That said it doesn't make it easier. Hugs v
I'm sorry it wasn't better news, but I'm glad it wasn't terrible either. You must be exhausted after today, and it will likely take some time to process. Huge hugs.
DS was measuring like that. He was huge the entire pregnancy. My first MFM (who I no longer see) was convinced I had lied about not having GD and told me DS would weigh 11lbs at birth. He was delivered at 39w3d via c-section because he was breech. He weighed 8lbs 9oz and was 21 inches long. He just turned 5 last week and is now 48 inches tall. He has always been the tallest kid in his class, like by a lot. Baby girl is already measuring in the 78% for where I am in this pregnancy. Looks like history will repeat for me.
I hope you get to have a vaginal delivery and that you just have a tall one like me.

Thanks all! You girls are so supportive. I am happy this is a minor issue and hopefully it's the hardest thing we deal with this pregnancy. And to compare you awesome ladies to my BMB, they think I need to demand a work up for gigantism LOLOLOLOL. I think we'll go with wait and see for my 2 lb fetus.
