This is the non-hairstyle I had before:
(Unrelated: down 30 pounds! Fuck yeah!)
Here is what it looked like when the stylist finished with it:
Here is what it looks like now.
I told her I can't style it every morning and wanted a version of a haircut in their book that I could do without styling. Babysaurus and one of my parrots are afraid of the hair dryer, so I have to wait until everyone is taking a nap if I want to use it--this never happens at the same time. I also need to find a new brand of product without sulfates, because they give me seborrheic dermatitis (yes, that's cradle cap) and my old line was discontinued. She did a great job, and I loved it when I left, but...she used a drier on it, plus a flat iron, and three products (mousse, spray, and mud). I was ok with that, because I do want to know how to style it for if I go out on a date night or something, but she said the way it looked when I left (after showing me 3 styles first) I could get with just a towel dry.
Um, no. I have washed it three times now, towel dried after each, and one side of my hair does this...thing. I had a cut like this before, and it did not do this. WTF.
I want to shave my head and start fresh. I think I have an ugly skull, though. WDYT?
Here is a picture of a wombat showing off his balls in case you went through this whole post and waiting for something interesting.

I think it looks great now! I understand your annoyance though - I feel like cuts like this never look the same at home as they did at the salon. It's the one thing that keeps me from going back to short hair.

You look great with short hair. I think a flatiron should be quick, quiet, and fix the flip. One side of my hair always flips out weird or does its own thing too. It can be so frustrating.

Uuugh, do I really have to iron it to get both sides to match? Because then I need to deep condition once a week. My hair is really delicate and fine.
Em, I can do that? It won't seem bitchy and complainy? Do I need to make an appointment for that sort of thing? The salon does take walk-ins but I feel like showing up randomly and saying, "Fix this!" is maybe rude?
Also, thank you for the compliments. I was sort of expecting people to be wondering why the hell I did this to my head.
Very cute! I would go in for a blow out and ask her how she is styling it, what tools and products she uses, etc. They want you to be happy with your style, too, so they're usually happy to explain it.

I went short, too, and it's definitely a learning process. Yours looks super cute and fits nicely with your face shape (congrats on the weight loss!).
I'd poke around looking for some new accessories and start googling for new hair goo. If you've gotten that flying-out on one side three times, you're probably going to have to do something to tame it. Either a flat iron (which wouldn't make noise, mine heats up in like 30 seconds so it's fast, too) or some kind of product. I like texturizing wax or cream, a bit of hairspray, or volumizer. I tend to use one or two of the three and b/c it's short, it's fast and I just style with my fingers to get things laying right.
Do you shower in the mornings or at night? Maybe you could change up your routine so you shower at night and take a few minutes to style in the morning.
I've just had to accept that even though my hair looks okay short and unstyled, I do have to do something -- blow dry, use some texturizing product, or stick some bobby pins in -- to feel like it's not just laying there in the short-hair equivalent of a ponytail.
Is it possible that post baby hormone changes have changed your hair texture slightly? The way your hair looks now is how my hair always looks if the stylist isn't very careful thanks to random waves in my hair. I think it looks cute, but I know when I have that going on I always getted pissed about it.

Damn, you look really cute with short hair. Is your hair fine? If I'm letting mine air dry and don't want it to be curly I've had some success running some Garnier Fructis Smoothing Cream through it to tame the flip - I think it's sulfate-free, but I'm not 100%.

And I want a wombat.
Smoothing cream? I will look into this!
Also, yes, my hair is very fine. It is slightly less so than my baby's, I kid you not. I really couldn't do ponytails when it was long because the holders would slide right out within an hour.
Currently I have a wing piece on either side of my head. I dry it so the ends are straight, and then they flip our over the course of the day. Flat iron remedies it, but I don't like to do it every day.
I blame it on the humidity and my natural curl. Good times.
