I'm sorry about all of these foot questions! But I'm asking more!
I'm having kind of a challenging time walking normally. It's better, but it's hard to walk through my foot. I have a slow limp. I'm working on it with my PT, but it's taking a long time. Also, when I do try to walk through the entire motion, the tendon on the ankle bone rubs, and hurts a bit. Mostly it just feels weird and it makes me hesitant to complete the full walking motion. How long did it take you to feel like you were walking without limping? And waking at a normal pace?
Normal. It took me quite a while before my range of motion was normal. I remember specifically it took close to a year before I could sit in a chair and have my foot sit flat on the ground if I was barefoot. It was weird.
It took me a long time before I could walk completely normal again, definitely not until after my hardware removal 11 months post-injury (but my hardware, 2 giant plates and 20+ screws, severely impacted my range of motion....lots of people don't have that issue). I think its hard to make comparisons because our injuries were a bit different (while I did break my ankle as well, my broken leg was the more major issue). I was on crutches for about 4 months.
You suffered a major injury, its going to take a while to come back from that. I know its frustrating, and it can be hard to decifer between whats part of the normal healing process and what isn't, but if your PT and Ortho are aware and not alarmed I'd just keep on keeping on. Hugs!
Remind me again how far out you are from your accident?
And the swelling! Good lord! I'm ok in the morning, still swollen. But by the time I get home it's giant. Thankfully the pain has subsided quite a bit. And then there is the shoe issue. Running shoes every day. Lol! They are cute, but not when you are trying to dress nicely! Lol!
On a more positive note, I recovered and am now strong enough to train for a marathon! In the first year I never ever thought I'd get to a point where that was possible. You'll get there!!
Yes! You are my hero and inspiration! I can't wait to see how it goes for you!
