I'm cleaning out my closet and putting away my maternity clothes. Going through it, I just remembered that I leant a pregnant friend a nice maternity dress. It was for a specific occasion that I know has already passed. I had totally forgotten I leant it to her. She is due next month. What's the etiquette on getting it back? Do I wait and assume she'll remember? Would it be weird to ask for it back now since I'm packing up my clothes? We see each other at girls nights about once a month. She's having twins and will have 4 kids (!), so honestly I'm a little afraid she might forget to give it back to me.
I would text her and tell her you were going through your clothes and realized you never got it back and does she mind bringing it the next time you get together.
"Hey Suzie do you still have that black maternity dress I lent to you? If you're done using it can I pick it up sometime this week? My sister/cousin/friend/mailwoman/dog walker needs it for an event and I told her I could get it to her soon. Let me know what day works best to stop by quickly. Thanks so much!"
Usually if I borrow maternity clothes, I don't give them back until I am packing away my own maternity clothes. Since you aren't pregnant, I would have thought nothing of keeping it in case I want to wear it again.
