I got a pair of black stretchy jeans from old navy - they are the rockstar super skinny mid-rise. They do have a button/zipper but are comfy and flattering.
My sister swears by BetaBrand. Look like dress pants, feel like yoga pants. I haven't tried them because I don't ever need to wear dress pants :-). BetaBrand dot com.
There are several things at Old Navy right now that might work for you. Sizing is always crazy there but they are cheap. There are a bunch in the Drapey section of pants. I have several different ones in the drapey styles and they are almost like wearing pajamas. But they can look dressier if you want.
I have a pair of pants by Hue I bought at Herberger's (but they're everywhere). They're more of what you describe. Fitted like a legging but thick so you don't need to worry about covering your butt (they even have pockets in the back). I love it.
And are you anywhere near a Sam's? June and Daisy makes some great pants like you describe but I've only seen that brand there.
Do these exist? I teach HS, so I don't need anything super dressy, just something that will go nicely with chambray button downs, long sleeve knit shirts, and cardigans.
I want pants that aren't quite sweatpants/yoga pants and not quite dress pants. Something with either a waist that moves/gives and that I can wear with basic flats.
I was looking at the Lands End Starfish pants but they look frumpy, even on the model. That is the style that I *think* I am looking for, but maybe with a slightly slimmer leg opening.
@booby, do you have these or something similar? I think I remember you having something like this.
Size 12, 5ft 6. Occasionally a 14, usually a 10 in dresses.
I have those exact pants on right now. They are yoga pants, sorry. They're not appropriate for work. They are super comfy for wearing around the house though!
These are what I had last year and I really liked them. I'm bummed I can't wear them this year because I'm pregnant. They slim your tummy but not so much so that you get a muffin top. They're the perfect cross between thin leggings and full on regular pants.
I'm wearing sort of a black jegging today. Would something like that work?
Maybe? Where did you get them?
My waist to ass ratio is of concern. I have a bubble and my waist is smaller. This often leads to pants not coming up over my ass and leaving a big waist gap. Leggings usually are ok but I've never found a pair of jeggings that worked.

I am wearing these pants today, I got them off a rec from this board . I paid $35 for them, and they are $42 no, so you can probably wait for a better sale. They look nicer in person than on the model, I feel like on the model they look athletic. They are comfy like leggings, but a bit thicker and nicer feeling. I am obsessed with them and want 12 pairs.

I have these as well and love them! They are so stretchy and comfortable. I just bought these which I like a lot too:
