Long story short, I purchased an out of my price range car while married (right before we split). In reviewing my budget, it is really the only thing I can cut back on. I still have 1.5 years left on the lease and I would consider buying it out but I have no concept if you can renegotiate the price or what. I was left in the dark throughout the process but got stuck with the $600/month payment in the divorce.

They might want it back... The last two years of my lease the dealership sent letters and called constantly wanting the car. With leases the miles are generally low so it makes for a better used car sale for them
Holy Wah! a 600 a month lease??? Oh, and you did not purchase a vehicle, you leased a vehicle. BIG difference. Talk with the dealership Do you have $$ to pay a penalty for early termination? Another possibility is to try and sell the car. Closing of the deal would be at the dealership since you are not the owner and they hold the title. You would have to pay any difference in the price and what you owe the dealership.
We originally leased my car. About 18 months into the lease, we decided to buy it outright. We went to a couple dealerships and one allowed us to buy it out.
I've been able to trade a leased car in and the dealership bought out the lease. If you have a desirable enough car, a lot of dealerships are willing to buy out your lease.
I just turned in a lease that I still had 12 months left on due to our pending divorce and was able to get into another vehicle for a lower monthly payment with no problems. They "ate" my remaining lease payments, and the cost of new tires that were needed, and they even gave me a $700 credit towards my next vehicle.
However, I suggest going to the same dealership where you leased the vehicle though. I had gone to a different dealership because they were running an awesome deal on a car that I liked, but the wouldn't work with my previous lease. I'd have to pay the $3500 or roll it into my new lease payments. So I ended up going to the dealership that I leased the 1st vehichle from and they took care of my remaining lease with no problems. They even had a $0 down/$0 due at signing deal going on so I walked away with a less expensive vehicle and didn't have to pay a dime until my 2nd month's payment was due.
