I have multiple nodules on my thyroid. One is of significant enough size that I am having it biopsied today. Has anyone had this done? What should I expect? I've been afraid to go on the internet.
I had this done back in May. The biopsy wasn't that bad. You can feel the needle movement, but it didn't really hurt. After my biopsy I picked the boys up from school and went to a movie.
Thyroid nodules are really common.
The doctors called mine massive, and even though my patholygy came back benign, because of the size, I ended up having surgery last month to have half of my thyroid removed.
I can't say the surgery was fun, but the recovery wasn't that bad, and I've been back to work a few weeks with no major issues.

Do you have to take thyroid medication for the rest of your life?
I've been monitoring thyroid nodules for over a decade. We never did a biopsy. I just get an ultrasound every year or two and they compare the sizes to the old data. Nothing much has changed.
I am on thyroid meds, but that has to do with function, not with the nodules.

I'm only about a month out after surgery, but since the doctor only had to take half, so far I'm medication free. We'll reassess my levels periodically, but I'm hoping the half I have will continue to work overtime and keep me med free.
