DS is 3.5, can I give him anything for a cough yet? He didn't sleep at all last night, his cough is awful. I keep reading that toddler cough medicines like Zarbees are equally as effective as honey. So I tried honey and it did NOTHING. Anything else I can try?
ETA: I'm already doing nebulizer, humidifier, and ibuprofen.
We ended up getting inhalers for DS because every cold he got went that way. It's the only thing that has ever helped, and trust me, I tried everything. Coughs are the worst - they last forever.
Sometimes benedryl would help stop post nasal drip. Or maybe it knocked him out. Either way, we'd get a bit more sleep.

There's albuterol in the nebulizer, so the same med as his rescue inhaler. Every cold he gets goes this way. I was just wondering if he's old enough yet for anything else.
Get the Zarabees. For some reason it works much better than honey.
Vick's also helps DDs cough a lot. (I use the regular stuff on her, not the baby. She's old enough. She's not eating it. I use my common sense..blah blah. It just works so much better).

The nurse practitioner DD (4 yo) saw for her pink eye told us to give her children's Claritin for her cough. I didn't know they even made kids chewable Claritin, but the packaging has dosage instructions for kids as young as 2.
I agree with the antihistamine to help prevent the post nasal drip. Maybe humidifier Vicks rub I give her my nasal steroid spray every other day at half dose (post nasal drip) I tried to give her lozenges but she kept taking it out of her mouth because it was so slow. They used to have kid ones on sticks. So much better. Elevate his head if possible. Sleep on his side is better. Cooler temperature often helps - croupier cough is helped by cool air
Just got back from the pedi. Another croupy virus. Got an Rx for oral steroids, plus the nebulizer. His pulse ox was 97, supposed to be 98 or above. It had only be 3 hours since his last neb treatment. If that trend continues (needing neb more frequently than 4 hours) we're going to end up in the hospital.
