Because I was finally going to put an end to my misery and buy tickets for my trip because the tickets dropped to $447 from $487 yesterday. Well now Kayak says "WAIT". But it said "BUY" at $487.
I usually trust it but if i generally know a route and how prices go I let my judgement rule. Especially at the holidays I feel like when you are a price you can stomach you have to jump.
I've used Kayak for like 8 years now and I have always ignored it. As soon as I know I need to buy a flight, I stalk it to get an idea of how much it can cost and then pull the trigger when I catch it at a low or give up and just buy if I missed the low and it's now getting too close. It worked for my upcoming trip to Dallas - saw it for $200, went up to past $300 and I was sad for missing the low and getting ready to buy because I need to be done with this but forgot to buy it. When I looked again it was back to $200 and I ran and got my CC immediately. OTOH, had my husband watch his ticket to Iceland for a few weeks and it never went down and only started going up so he had to buy it a slightly higher price. Can't always win.
I get Airfare Watchdog alerts for cities I visit often, and i usually read their weekly fare email, so I know what's a good fare and what isn't. I buy when I get a decent price regardless of what the predictor says.
