I just googled and you-tubed but I don't think I have ever heard them before..... I just agreed to go to their concert on Friday without having a clue who they are. Are they a big deal and I am living under a rock? I was too embarrassed to tell my friend that I don't know who they are.
Maybe I should listed to stations other than 90's on 9 and Hip Hop Nation....
Yeah, I didn't know who he was until about two weeks ago. And the only reason I found out then is because I was wondering why Elliott Smith was suddenly experiencing a popularity boom, nearly nine years after his death. Turns out all the people talking about "Somebody That I Used to Know" were not, in fact, talking about Smith's awesome song from "Figure 8," but this song by someone named Gotye*.
*Not to be confused with Goatse (if you don't know what that is, don't Google it. Especially not at work.).
It may be a regional thing or you might not listen to the radio much, but out here, they have been playing his song (featuring Kimbra - also a solo artist), "Somebody that I used to know" constantly for months and months now.
I remember when I first heard it, I LOVED it, and I though, wait...is this Sting? My mother thought the same thing.
It's one of my happy songs, like Postal Service's "Such Great Hieghts." It instantly puts me in a good mood.

I know I just can't stand commercial radio anymore, so I rarely hear new music I don't seek out. I also commute by bus, so I mostly rely on the music on my iPhone. When I drive somewhere, my radio's tuned to NPR. Occasionally I switch it to KEXP (local indie public station), but yeah... it's pretty much always NPR. Sometimes I feel bad about this, but then I hear snippets of what's popular and decide I'm not missing much.

Rikki- you should report back to us after the concert b/c my H and I have been wondering how he is in concert.
If you watch some of his videos being in his studio mixing and recording stuff on his own, it's pretty cool. I'm just curious how some of that translates to a live performance.
