So, my kid scared the ever loving shit out of me this morning.
I'm in the bathroom, getting ready for work, when suddenly the bathroom door opens and in walks C rubbing his eyes and telling me it's too "bight!" I almost had a heart attack from the surprise. And then of course I'm asking him how he got out of his room and he very nonchalantly tells me he climbed out.
His big boy room isn't quite ready yet. I think H was hoping to paint this weekend and then we could probably move him in if I find some bedding over the weekend too. Is it safe for him to still sleep in his crib for another few days or a week, knowing he can get out?

Can you take the front off the crib, so it's like a toddler bed? I'd probably do that rather than risk him falling while climbing out. Or just put the crib mattress on the floor until his new room is ready.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that. I'll talk to H about doing that tonight in the mean time.
I should probably get some tether thingys for the book shelf and dresser, huh? He hasn't really been left alone in his room much and he doesn't climb stuff (until now, clearly), so we haven't done so yet. The furniture will be staying in the room for baby #2 anyway, so we might as well do it.

@glitzy, he and my ds are around the same age, right? We found out that L can climb out of his pack and play. He hasn't attempted the crib yet, but I assume it's coming. We talked about trying a mattress on the floor this weekend, but now that DH has strep we will probably wait.

I'm not ready!!!
I think they're pretty close. C turned 2 in July. I knew it was coming but was still really caught off guard this morning when he just waltzed out of his room!

When DD2 did that, DH took the bottom (the springs) out of her crib. Her crib mattress is literally on the floor -- the crib is just four walls around her. Like a baby cage :-)
She first climbed out almost a year ago, and since we did this she hasn't climbed out since.

I would watch and see how he climbs out. If he throws his legs over, you are probably okay for a while, especially if be is only climbing out in the morning. If he goes head first then he needs to be stopped.
We dropped the mattress to the floor, and it worked for one night, but M also climbed out for the first time at 9 months. I think it is worth trying.
