I never sent an additional outfit for DD for picture day at preschool (she started ps at age 2). Yes, this sounds fussy to me. The shoes thing, for safety, I can see, although I can't say that I ever bought DD any shoes at that age that wouldn't have been safe to run around in since we walk so much.

DD's daycare doesn't do a picture day But if they did, I would absolutely send her in a cute outfit for pics, then an alternate outfit for the rest of the day.
It wouldn't occur to me to send in another whole outfit, TBH. Shoes, maybe. But that's about it. You really expect the teacher to change ALL the kids' clothes?

We've only had 1 picture day so far and the kids were like 4 months old. The daycare teachers had us send the picture outfit separately and they changed them in to the outfit right before pictures, and then changed them back into regular clothes right after pictures.

I mean, they still change their diapers, so it's not ALL that much more work really.
I change my son's diaper often. Changing his entire outfit on top of that isn't awesome. That x 20 other kids (or whatever the number is)? Shoot me.

We had one teacher ask if we wanted her changed after. I said no and normally do not send a change of clothes. I also don't think I have ever sent her in her best stuff.

I always viewed daycare/preschool pictures as "cute for school" clothes. I never sent him in anything he couldn't play in. Newer, not stained, on the nicer end for school clothes, yes, but not something I would probably pick for professional pictures. So it wasn't a problem when he wore those clothes the rest of the day.

Not picture day specific, our daycare requests we keep spare clothes in his cubby at all times. He often comes home in a new outfit because the original got too wet or messy.
Sometimes I think this is DS's insistence, though. He cries if it got a little wet and uses it as an excuse to put on a shirt he likes better.
I usually have them change the shirt and shoes. They ask us to send play clothes to change into. I don't think it's fussy. Kids get dirty at DC and you don't want their nice clothes to be covered in dirt, food, etc.

Sending clothes to change into isn't mentioned on the flyer for DS1's picture day and I'm not sending a separate outfit for him. But then again, I'm not planning on getting DS1 dressed up in clothes that he wouldn't be able to spend the rest of the day in.
Depends when the pictures are taken. This year they were first thing before breakfast. He wore jeans, a button up and sweater vest. I told the teachers to feel free to take the vest off, roll up the sleeves or grab his spare clothes from his cubby if he got too warm or seemed uncomfortable.
For his spring pictures, the teachers said to dress them in regular clothes and pack picture clothes. They knew the pictures wouldn't be taken until after lunch/nap, so the clothes would have been wrecked by then.
ETA: He comes home in a different a shirt/pants at least twice a week. We keep a lot of spares there because he's super messy.

Our daycare actually tells us to just send in the picture clothes for the little ones. They put them on just for pictures and take them back off. The teachers much prefer having the kids in regular play clothes and some of the parents send some pretty fancy stuff for picture day.
We were told to bring a change of clothes for after pictures. They even withheld breakfast until after pics were over
However, I work from home and have a flexible schedule so I just take her to get her picture done myself and change her before we leave. That way I can have all the control over her hair, etc. Not that she'll smile for the pics anyway, but at least I know that someone tried!

We had picture day today too. I didn't send a change but I also didn't send the Thai curry lunch that I had originally planned because I didn't want it to stain his nice clothes. Poor kid is eating dry ravioli.

Since the center likely gets a cut of the sales, and I am less likely to buy a photo of my kid covered in a fruit cup, I can see why they encourage it.
They change the kids weekly for summer water day, so 2 more days a year is really nbd.

I only did when they had pics with Santa made and it was the same outfit he was going to wear on Christmas Eve. I sent a change of clothes for that. Otherwise, no.
I've never sent an alternate outfit. But his picture outfit has always been something like a sweater and pants - something he would wear on a normal day anyways.
Lots of kids in my class did that or came in their regular clothes and changed into their picture outfit and back into regular clothes afterwards. We had a recess before pictures so it was better that way.
Oh and I always hid the syrup on picture day. Sorry guys, guess it's dry pancakes this morning!
