We will be there for a week in the middle of October with DH's family. Help me plan lots of fun stuff for us to do so we aren't stuck sitting the resort with them saying "oh, I don't care, whatever you want to do". "Oh, no whatever's best for you". "I don't care, where do you want to eat". FML!!!!!!!!!! I know DH and I and DD will spend a day at Sanibel Island. What else? Today it came up that 2 full size cars have been reserved. For 10 adults and 2 kids in carseats. I've already been over to costco dot com and reserved us our own car. This is such a cluster.

I went almost every year growing up, through last year! Besides Sanibel, we've rented jetskis, gone on a dolphin jetski tour (this was so fun), gone deep sea fishing, went to the outlets, made a day trip to Universal, but mostly a lot of hanging on the beach/by the pool and eating and drinking
For breakfast: Heavenly Biscuit Dinner: Charley's Boat House Grill, Doc Fords Drinks/Night Out: Pete's Time Out/Nervous Nellie's Pizza: Citrolla's- by the pier Happy Hour: The Beached Whale- sit on the roof
Have fun, and let me know if you have more questions!
We went to the railroad museum in Ft. Myers, and DS had a blast. Train rides with little miniatures to look at, a park nearby it, a little train museum. It was a fun way to kill a morning/afternoon.
ETA: We also went to the lighthouse on Sanibel and it was neat. There were a ton of dolphins in the area to watch on that side of the island.
We also did one of those speed boat tours that circled Sanibel/Captiva and it was pretty fun too.

My grandparents are snowbirds so we went every winter. I remember going to a place on Captiva called the bubble room. It's got kind of a magical ambiance for kids.
The railroad museum looks fun! @drewly and Yankees21 DD will be 14 months, do you think she's too young for one of the dolphin boat sightseeing trips, or the speedboat trip? I know we can't do the jetski stuff with her, but wasn't sure about the boats. DH and I went deep sea fishing in Cocoa Beach a few years ago, once was enough for me But he and his uncles may go again this trip, not sure yet.
DS was 23 months when we went, so he was older. It was definitely safe. DS loved having the wind blowing through his hair and watching the dolphins, but he did fall asleep about half way through. Our was about an hour.
