Working on my registry: are baby nail clippers special somehow? I looked at them in-store and at pictures online and other than having a bulkier handle I'm just not seeing it.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!
Vaginal delivery recovery- this is a whole new ball game for me. I have 2nd degree tears, episiotomy, bad hemorrhoids. I'm going to send H for supplies while he is grocery shopping and E and I are still at the hospital. -the sitz bath. I sat on it and it was not pleasant. I felt like it... spread everything out too much and it was all open. Plus the water didn't feel awesome. My cousin said she does Epsom salts in hers? Is that okay? Should I keep trying more baths? The nurse said 3x/day? I use the EMAB postpartum bath herbs once a day. Then I freeze the little bag (it's like a bigger tea bag) and use it as an ice pack. I only do it once a day.
-that spray stuff. Will I keep using it for awhile/should I replenish after the small hospital bottle runs out? Spray stuff? Do you mean dermoplast? If so then yes, I would get another can of it (the one with th blue top.
-I have EMAB bottom spray stuff at home. What is this supposed to do? Will it replace something I am doing now? I really like this stuff! It's refreshing and I think the herbs in it aid healing. I normally spray it on before the dermoplast.
-how am I supposed to use the tucks pads? The nurse lined them up on the pad like a sub, but I don't feel them doing anything for my butt. I fold it in half, then in half again and put the EMAB momma bottom balm on it and put it between my butt cheeks. I find using tucks pads on my stitches dries them out and makes them uncomfortable.
-I can't fully stand up for several minutes. It's like everything is too tight/swollen down there and pulling my top half down. Usually by the time I slowly get to the bathroom, pee, fix myself up and then stand up I can get up okay. Normal? Sounds normal to me but call to double check. Are you still taking advil and using ice packs/padsicles to help with swelling?
-any other hints/tips? This is a much harder/more uncomfortable recovery than my c-section so far.. Eta: namasteak tagging you because you are doing this now also and seem to know a lot about this!
Random tips: -keep your legs together -try not to get up unless you have to -pass off as much responsibility to your H as possibke
He's just six months now and she wants us to try meat, seafood, peanut butter and bread, etc., and have him on three meals and two snacks at nine months.
My son wouldn't really eat until 7m. It took him until closer to a year old to get to 3 meals and 2 snacks. He ate purees and yogurt for 2 months before moving to shredded cheese, crackers, deli meat, etc.

When do I switch from swaddle to swaddle sack or sleep sack? We use the SwaddleMe Velcro ones because DD has busted out of any kind of blanket swaddle since day 1. She's 10 weeks old and these swaddles are becoming a little small and she gets out of them more easily than before. Do I go up a size or switch to something else?
We bought a Halo swaddle sack too, but she's only 10 lbs and won't fit the one we have until 13 lbs.
Eta: she is not rolling over yet.
Sent from my Moto X using Proboards.
When this happened with DS1 we did the escape proof swaddle under a swaddleme.

These are great tips. My first delivery I had a 2nd degree tear and superficial tears on the sides. I did not follow this advice and my recovery was very slow and I tore my stitches.
The sitz baths are key. I put witch hazel in them. Keep on top of your meds. Use the water bottle with warm water every time you pee, you can put witch hazel in there too.

kaycee is there just liquid witch hazel I can buy? I can order it prime to be home a day after I get there, or if H can get it at the grocery store I can use it tomorrow..

Sitz baths--I sat in the bathtub at home instead. Much more comfortable. Just full with a couple of inches of hot water. Epsom salts are fine. The spray is dermoplast. I like it a lot and used 2 cans. I think the EMAB bottom spray is an all-natural equivalent to Dermoplast. I tucked the Tucks pads up inside my labia and butt cheeks. Much me effective than lining them up on the pad. Even more effective? PADSICLES. Omg these were the best. It took me a while to be able to move around.
Fwiw, I had 2 second degree tears, one was near my urethra. And hemorrhoids. Peeing and pooping were both difficult for a while.
And colace did jack for me. That's my maintenance medication when I'm not pregnant. I was on miralax, that made pooping bearable.
An insert you can put in the bowl of your toilet. You put warm water & herbs in it, let it sit and once you strain the herbs you sit in it for 15ish minutes. It helps hearing so I would recommend doing it once a day.

I like the ones with the light. I also like how the closure is smaller than adult clippers, since the key to clipping babies' and toddlers' nails is to stabalize the finger and movebas quickly as possible, lol. I think I would have done a lot more finger-nipping with adult clippers!

My question: heat rash. Oy. Our AC is out until Tuesday and poor thing is totally broken out. Doesn't seem to bother her, but is there something I should be doing?

I would leave it alone and it should be better in a day or two. I would let her hang out in her diaper as much as possible to keep cool.
My question, when did you switch to 2% milk, if at all? I have gotten the suggestion from multiple people because my 14 month old DD is still chunky, but I thought you weren't supposed to give 2% for awhile. Same with yogurt, cheese, etc.?
My pedi said whole milk day from age 1-2. At age 2 we could switch to whatever the rest of the family drinks. We drink 2% milk, whole milk yogurt (it tastes WAY better), and I don't even look at the milk content of cheese, I just buy what I like.
FWIW, 14 month old are SUPPOSED to be chunky. They're still babies really. DS didn't start to thin out until 2.5ish.

DS is two and I give him what we drink/eat which is skim, light Greek yogurt, part skim cheese, etc. Honestly I just got tired of buying him his own and not use it all.

Mine gets heat rash too. I've been leaving it alone.

Thank you for saying this. I still think her chunkiness is adorable!!

I'm feeling irrationally annoyed that you all are/were doing WARM sits baths!?!?! I was instructed to do ice cold ones, as in with ice floating around in it! Maybe because of the vulvar hematoma? humpforfree, I'm sorry you are having a rough time, but I honestly appreciate you saying this recovery is harder than your section. I feel like people made me feel crazy that I wasn't at a Target with my 4 week old, but I was still doing the damn sitz baths! I also had 2nd degree tears. Whatever you do, don't get that donut thing to sit on. My discharge doc rec'd it and it only made things worse.
When should I start pumping? I had heard I need to wait till 4 weeks. Will I mess up my supply if I start earlier?
What is the deal with pacifiers? Do I need to wait before giving her one? I think it would be helpful on car rides.
I started around 6 weeks. I did that based on my supply (not great and I was trying to get as much baby on the boob time as possible to boost it) and the fact I was going back to work at 12 weeks and wanted to start slowly building a small freezer stash.
I am team paci. G got one in the hospital and it made a huge difference. Cases of true nipple confusion are rare, so I would go for it.

No. I hate all the pairs we ended up with and ended up using my personal favorite pair.

I would put some baby powder on it and that's it. I hope Tuesday comes fast for you!
