I much preferred just sitting in a warm tub of water. The sitz bath insert is uncomfortable! I definitely hurt more if I didn't soak at least 2 times per day. It was also really nice just to have designated tub breaks. Dermoplast is helpful and ditto the rec to take home multiple peri bottles. I had a 2 week PP check due to my tear/stitches and when talking about how I was still really uncomfortable, came to find out that I was sitting cross legged a lot while nursing DS on the couch (uh, why did that seem like a good idea?). Sitting on the boppy pillow (much bigger than the donuts they recommend) when I wasn't using it to nurse was really, really helpful too.
kaycee is there just liquid witch hazel I can buy? I can order it prime to be home a day after I get there, or if H can get it at the grocery store I can use it tomorrow..
This may be obvious but I didn't know it--there are two kinds of witch hazel, astringent and non astringent. You only want NON astringent witch hazel for these purposes
My question: heat rash. Oy. Our AC is out until Tuesday and poor thing is totally broken out. Doesn't seem to bother her, but is there something I should be doing?
I would put some baby powder on it and that's it. I hope Tuesday comes fast for you!
Amen and holy shit. It's still 95 degrees here during the day. She's been running around in just a diaper and baby powder all day. I'm sorta scared daycare is gonna be all, "RASH!!!!!! Go home!" and I'm all, "Dudes, she's here because, AC."
DS has been on purées for three eeks and we got the go ahead to give him anything but dairy (until nine months), honey and nuts. I am freaking out about him choking. I gave him puffs and he had no clue what to do with them. He looked confused and then swallowed them whole. So for meat, do I cut it into microscopic pieces, or do I purée it with veggies or what? I need to learn baby CPR better so I feel more comfortable with this!
I wouldn't rush into it. I started with puffs while dd learned to grasp and feed herself. She does pretty good now. She will be 8 months next week and we have just in the last week started feeding her soft foods. I don't go out of my way for that yet. She eats mostly puree but if I have something on my plate she can have I let her try.

Agreed. We've been mostly doing purees and oatmeal, but occasionally I give him something either in the mesh feeder or by itself. I recently got some "baby mums" which are like rice biscuits and he seems to like those. So I went out today and got him some puffs and yogurt drops. He seemed to like the puffs, didn't seem to like the yogurt drops, and we also gave him a piece each of broccoli, cauliflower and carrot. We just made a steam bag of veggies and gave him those once they cooled (the carrot was a large round piece). He really didn't like those but oh well, haha. For meat, I was thinking of starting with some ground meat as suggested here, or maybe a large chunk of chicken to gnaw on? The food has to be either too big to choke on/big enough to grab easily or small enough that he can swallow it whole. I find it easier to do the big chunks. You could puree but meh.
Anyways, that was a lot of rambling, haha. FWIW E has "choked" on food a few times and he's been fine. When he had a few little chunks for the first time he gagged on them because he wasn't used to them. He usually ends up spitting it out but does occasionally puke from it. It's hard to watch but there is a definite difference between gagging and choking. In these cases I could see the food sitting kind of on the back of his tongue, kinda like when you get that flaky piece of the popcorn kernel stuck there. Hope that helps you feel a little better about it! You can go slowly with making the food chunkier or start giving him big pieces. Whatever makes you most comfortable!

humpforfree I had a 3rd degree tear and I couldn't get up/down or walk normally for a couple weeks at least! Baths were awesome. Make sure to take time to take a bath or two a day. Epsom salts are good, they help with the healing and pain. To the PP that mentioned cold baths - my doc recommended warm because that helps the blood flow to the area to speed up the healing.
Yes, totally normal to feel "heavy" in that area for a while. I felt like my insides were going to fall out for a little while. I think it was just from the swelling.
I never liked the ice packs personally so I never tried the padsicles. For the Tuck's pads, I would use them when I went to the bathroom. I would use the peri bottle during/after, then lightly press a Tuck's pad all over the general area. I don't remember ever leaving them on the pad, but a definite possibility.
I agree with pooh8402 that Colace didn't do anything for me. I took it 3 times a day and nothing. I finally started getting a bit worried and took some Miralax. It worked but.. let's just say that was PAINFUL. It was uh.. not usual. I'm not sure why. The Colace definitely didn't make things any easier!
A weird suggestion I have.. I found I actually liked the pads H accidentally bought for me. I sent him out to get some super absorbency ones (which I really didn't need, I didn't bleed half as much as I thought I would) and he grabbed bladder control pads instead. I actually ended up liking them. They're bulky, but they were nice and padded, and pretty absorbent.
Definitely don't overdo it. Even just walking around Sam's Club at 2 weeks PP made me bleed more and was a little painful. Don't do anything you don't have to do. I'm sure that's similar advice to a c-section recovery though
krystee to make myself feel better, I had a bit of everything she had to test for choking. Those puffs dissolve in your mouth. For meat, we gave her chicken fingers and she mostly just sucked on them. Meat as a purée is dry. We mixed it with veggies or potatoes. Just remember all foods before one are practice.
