For the last 2 weeks I've been able to get a tight swaddle (escape proof method) but the last few days he has been so squirmy that I can't get it tight enough. He either wiggles too much when I'm swaddling or is strong enough to bend his arms once swaddled (thus reducing how well it works). Just using a swaddle me wasn't working either
WHen my kid got to this point, I switched to the Love to Dream swaddle up. He has slept like a dream since the switch (he was 8ish weeks, now is 6 mos and still sleeps in it). It's escape proof (zipper) and lets them have their hands it. It completely stifles the startle reflex too.
I liked the woombie too and wish I had bought it sooner. She started to roll not long after I starting using it so it was short lived. We're onto the Merlin suit now.
I loved the woombie amd modswad when E was bitty bitty and still liked his arms in.
My blanket swaddle method is difficult for me to describe. It's not 100% escape-proof, but it is a pretty tight swaddle.
I like to use big blankets with a bit of stretch but not too much. A&A blankets are really good, but I don't fold them into a perfect triangle.
So you know that triangle of fabric on the inside of the swaddle that you lay the baby on? I hook his arm into that before bringing the corner over. As I and bringing that side over, I grab the other arm and pull it across baby's chest, so both arms are secured by the same corner of the blanket. Secure the blanket behind baby. Proceed through the rest of the swaddle, and make that last corner really tight.
