I just noticed earlier today that Disney recommends that pregnant women do not partake in the Kilimanjaro Safari. I knew that there would be some rides I wouldn't be able to do while pregnant, and I'm totally fine with that because I don't do roller coasters anyway -- but I was really looking forward to the safari, and I'm super disappointed!
Those who have been on Kilimanjaro Safari: What is it like? Why do you think they say pregnant women shouldn't ride it? Would you ride it if you were pregnant? If it makes a difference, I'll be 13 weeks along when we're at Disney.
H said there's just a part where a bridge shakes and he didn't see the concern. Another woman said that her car had a rhino (I think?) running along side it and she understood the concern.

I've been to Disney when I was pregnant (early 2nd tri). I wasn't visibly pregnant, so I could have easily gone on the Safari without anyone stopping me. I honestly debated it quite a bit, but ultimately I decided not to go on it. (Actually, we ended up skipping AK for other reasons, but I'd already decided not to go on it.)
Apparently the concern is that the vigorous shaking on that ride can be harmful to the baby. I read a bunch of posts on the dis boards about it before I decided. I asked my doctor, but she wasn't familiar with the ride. It seemed silly to me since it's basically a car ride, but there is a part of it that's fairly rough (going over a bridge). I just figured that on the very small chance that something happened, I'd beat myself up for going on a ride I could easily have skipped.
We were just talking about that ride this weekend.
The ride is really rough, even just driving. It's a lot of bouncing around. (Maybe moreso because we were in the very back?) No one in our group was pregnant, but my H had gotten a cortisone shot in his back a few weeks before our trip. The Safari ride was the only ride he regretted riding the whole week.
I think it's not just about the baby. When you're pregnant, everything is just loose and more susceptible to injury. I know I would have been miserable on it with DS2...the bouncing and jarring would have been uncomfortable for ME, even if baby would have been OK.
I just went on it yesterday at 26 weeks and it was fine. I asked to sit in the front row. I felt toy story mania jerked me around more today then the safari. My dr had been on the ride himself and ok'd it. There is nothing else with a caution I have ridden.
I went on it and was 11 weeks. The bridge that shakes you is the worst part. I guess there's always the possibility of an animal going rogue but the chance of that probably very slim to none.
Like a PP said Toy Story Mania jerks you around a lot more and it didn't have a warning for pregnant women.
I was 7 months pregnant and my doctor didn't have an issue with me doing the safari. He said if my 18 month old son could ride, I could too, so I rode the majority of Disney's rides, safari included. It is a little bumpy, but I didn't feel it was dangerous to ride it.
Last time we went we sat in the very back and it was very bumpy. We were flying every where. If you sit closer to the front it's tamer.
That being said, I did not go on it when I was pregnant with DS2 at 25 weeks, and probably would not go on it if we are at DW for future pregnancies either.
