You're making me question whether it's correct or not, but I'm pretty sure we have always had a gap between stomach and straps. And have been using the NextFit since DS was 12 weeks old. We just judge the tightness at the shoulders. I think I read somewhere that it's correct. Will be interested to see what other people say!
It just has to be tight enough to pass the "pinch test" at the shoulders. Some kids will have space in random spots where their bellies are bigger than their chest or vice versa. Or a cloth diaper.
No problem! Here's a pic: csftl.org/do-you-do-the-pinch-test/ (ETA: It's more at their collarbone than shoulder, but I was on my phone and shoulder was faster - I'll fix it, LOL.)
Yeah, we always do have it tight at the shoulder, but I can always pinch below the clip. We've played around trying to get it tighter below the clip. I think I can go a tad looser on DD now, knowing this.
Wait, so that kid in the first picture is actually correctly installed?? I haven't even read yet, but this makes me feel better. I don't even think hers is that bad.
Watch the video. She'll show you how to get rid of all the slack in the harness.
