One day, DS just miraculously started sleeping in the crib. I did nothing to encourage it except for to keep trying to put him down.
With DD, she started sleeping on a flat surface due to "nanny magic" after my ML ended. I don't really know how she did it (not CIO, because I was WAH for the first few weeks the nanny was with us), but I also wonder if age had something to do with it. I suspect that DD may have had some kind of reflux in the very early months.
DD slept in her swing for the first 10ish weeks. We just kept trying the crib and ot just clicked one day. Occasionally we would put her back in the swing on bad nights. But at that age I was well into the camp of do what works.
Trying to get him to nap in the crib was a huge fail today. Do I have to keep trying to get him to sleep/nap flat like in his crib?
Tell me how your baby's transition from swing to crib/flat surfaces went. Ugh, I hate to be creating bad habits (he's 5 weeks, btw).
DS is 3 months old and still sleeps in the swing every night. We don't turn it on though, so I guess it's not much different than sleeping in a RNP. I do want to transition him to his crib this month though. I bought a Merlin Magic Sleep Suit and I hope that helps. Now I just need to take the plunge and actually try it one night. I'm scared it's going to be a disaster.
Yeah, DD slept in the crib for all naps and bedtime until we wore it into the ground when she was around 4 months old. It is the only place she would ever sleep
Norah only napped in the swing and slept in the RNP until almost 6 months. The transition took a few days. Baby sleep was entirely worth creating habits that took a few days to break.
We are almost at 4 months and still napping in the swing. Rock n play at night. DD1 napped in the swing with a rigged swaddle (so we could buckle her in) until 8 months.

My twins napped in their swings in the living room until 3 months. Always had nighttime sleep in their cribs though. Then around 3 months I moved their swings into their bedroom to get them use to napping in their bedroom. Then around 4 months started napping them in their cribs. Dd switched no problem to her crib for naps. Ds2 put up for of a fight. So every couple days when he seemed really overtired I would nap him in his swing and then go back to the crib the next day. After 2 weeks he was fully in his crib as well.
At 5 weeks don't even worry about it. Total survival mode.
I mean seriously guys, 99.5% of his sleep is in this swing. I know it's survival mode but that seems kinda much?
But I guess not judging from responses lol
If you want to try changing to his crib/playpen/rnp I suggest trying at night. Imo they are more sleeping at night so it is a better time to start making the change. Just follow your gut though. If you are ready for some sleep outside of the swing then start.

I do not subscribe to the "bad habits" theory for young babies. I know for sure my DD slept double swaddled in her swing for like the first two months of her life. She has always been a great sleeper. I say do what works!

I wouldn't worry about habits at 5 weeks old. DD slept exclusively in the RNP for the first 8 weeks, regularly napped in it until she started daycare at 11 weeks where she napped in the crib cold turkey. Your baby will go to daycare, right? I wouldn't even worry about nap habits and let daycare deal with it later.

Yes! DS only napped in the swing for SIX months! And DD was in the RNP for all sleep for probably 4-5 months, and napped in the RNP or swing for 6-7 months.
NO. he hates the swing for longer than 15 minutes. he slept in the newborn napper on top of the PNP until 10 weeks though. we just started transitioning him to the flat bassinet within the PNP last week. it's gone well. I'm still swaddling him at night in the halo swaddle/sleepsack, but we've mostly ditched any kind of swaddle or blanket for day. the first couple of nights were rough, but see this morning's randoms for how well he did last night. he still napped in the RNP today.
DD had that reflex where she'd jerk her arms and wake up. She slept during the day in the swing till 5 or 6 mos? She always was fine at night since I swaddled her
If you want to try changing to his crib/playpen/rnp I suggest trying at night. Imo they are more sleeping at night so it is a better time to start making the change. Just follow your gut though. If you are ready for some sleep outside of the swing then start.
But I'm afraid to try to fix a good thing since he's sleeping 4-5 hour stretches at night.
I'll give it another week or two and re-eval.
DD sleeps in her vibrating bouncy chair type thing, in bed with me or being worn. I telly self that I'll start working on getting her to sleep in the crib around 2 months. I want to get through the 6 week growth spurt first before making any big changes.

I am not lying when I say that my 2.5 year slept in her swing for naps everyday until 18 months (or stroller if we were out) yes 18 months!! She slept in her rock n play at night until 6 months and is still going strong in her crib now at 2.5. We just went along with what worked and Dd is fine!
I say power through with what works. With DD1, weaning her of the swaddle, rock n play and Ferber was all done in one shot at 5 months. Ripped It off like a bandaid lol. But in 3 days it was a distant memory.

DD would only nap in the swing for a while. Until one weekend we went to visit my sister out of state and hauled the swing with us in the super over crowded car. Because the baby would only nap in the swing. That weekend, she wouldn't nap at all that I remember, and after that, I don't think she napped in the swing at home either. I think the next phase was when she would only sleep with my nipple in her mouth in my bed. So there are worse things than only wanting to sleep in the swing. :-)

At 5 weeks DD was only sleeping on us or with a boob in her mouth. Then magically one day she started sleeping in the RNP. But she still won't sleep flat. I figure it will happen when it happens.
