Not sure if I should put this on some "kid" board or not, but it's also travel related so....
My just-turned-2yo hates his PnP. I'm not sure he'd be ready to sleep in a hotel's bed (plus, he'd have to share with a parent or his brother & he's an active sleeper).
Anyone has a good travel bed option for the toddler set? Extra bonus points if it's easier/smaller to store than a PnP! Over the next few years, we are planning a cross-country trip (flying), a few local ones (driving), and ones to visit family that don't have cribs (flying). We might even try an international trip (so, smaller the better when it comes to the bed packed up) depending on how the cross-country trip goes.
At the risk of sounding irresponsible... When DD was about 2, we started just asking for a few extra blankets and pillows and letting her sleep on the ground. If there are sofa cushions, we make her a sofa cushion bed. If not, we put as thick a layer of blankets under her as possible and call it good.
She has a blast sleeping on the floor because it is like a sleepover.
some of our hotel rooms have had wood floors so we needed something, but that's probably not an issue in the US. It's easier than a PNP for sure. It's lighter, by a lot, and I can pack it in my big suitcase. Actually I pack 2 cots + 2 sleeping bags and still have room. My kids are 5 and are actually sleeping on the cots right now. I don't know when they'll decide they're too big for the cots but hopefully not anytime soon. I'm enjoying saving money with smaller rooms
We have an inflatable Hello Kitty bed that we bought in France (so unsure if the same model exists here?). It folds up very, very compactly and has its own little step pump. DD was 3.5 when we bought it, but we've had overnight visitors in the 2-yo range sleep on it as well.
We also have a One Step Ahead inflatable bed, but it's kind of bulky for anything but car travel.
We got This and it DS loved it. We took it everywhere and it was super easy to pack, blow up and store. It has a little lip around the edges so they won't roll out.

This is what I was going to suggest. I babysat a friend's toddler over the weekend and she slept on the floor on a pallet of blankets. The 2 year old remembers that weekend until this day, because she got to sleep on the floor.
We use a Shrunks inflatable bed for car travel trips or at home when he needs to be in our room for some reason (e.g., nephew staying over in DS's bed). We LOVE it. It has its own electric inflatable pump thing that both puts the air in and takes it out. The down side is that it really is too big to take on a plane. It's the top choice on this list: www.bestairmattressguide.com/definitive-guides/best-kids-toddler-air-mattress/
ETA: We always use a crib sheet, but I have friends with the same one who put a twin sheet over the whole thing.
You might be surprised by how he does in a bed, sofa bed, or just a floor bed. We do that a lot with DS for travel now. We did a big Euro trip when he was just under 2, and not all places had cribs (or cribs we trusted!). They also have these inflatable bumper things that would be easy to pack, and you just put it under the sheet on either side of the bed. On our last (plane flight away) vacation, we had him sleep on the 2nd bed, and just put pillows around him. I had to lay down to get him to sleep, but after that he was fine.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
We have used the regalo travel bed. It folds up nicely for car trips, but I would not bother with one for a plane trip.
Also, a lot of hotels these days have a sofabed plus two double or queen beds. We often look for these rooms since my 4 and 7 year olds cannot share a bed.
