We had a patient come in who seemed in a rush... she had a child with her. What we didn't know is that she'd left her other child (a two year-old) in her car, asleep with the window cracked. Then, when we told her to bring him in (we should have just called the cops on her), he was fine. She went into the bathroom with him, he came out screaming bloody murder.
:@ :@ :@
I'm so livid right now. How can ANY mother leave their child alone in a car. I don't care if it's overcast - I don't care if the window was cracked. I don't care if he was sleeping. You don't leave your child in a car alone. EVER. EVER.
Then she has the audacity to go on and on and on about how she's going to report us, make complaints, we're the worst clinic ever, blah blah blah... um, seriously? Next time you go to the doctor and need a little "me" time, get a fucking babysitter.
They have a "Look before you leave" campaign in my area. I can't even fathom the need to have a commercial to tell you to take care of your offspring, but stories like this remind me what dumb asses people can be.
I was in line waiting for my coffee at Starbucks the other day and the lady standing next to me was telling her mom to just leave the kid in the car and lock the doors. Her mother said she couldn't do that. She then told her mom that it was not even 70 out and that no one would kidnap the kid and to just do it. She then told me she couldn't believe that she wouldn't just go to the bathroom and lock the kid in the car.
I can't even believe leaving a kid in the car for more than 2 seconds especially if you aren't in direct sight of the child.
You can call no matter what. Your doctor will probably need to call to since they are mandated reporters. Most likely nothing will happen. HOWEVER, if there is already a case open on the family etc, your call will be very important.
When you call they will ask what happened, etc. It's easy. I would first write everything down as it happened. They will also ask the name of the people involved, do you have that info?

While I can not fathom leaving my child in the car while I go in for an appointment, I'm not sure it is against the law here. It is against the law to leave a minor in the car with the motor running. But if the car is off I don't think it is unlawful. I would still call the police if I came across a child left alone in a vehicle, I'm just not sure if CPS could do anything at this point (although it could be worth a call).
I'll admit I do leave the kids in the car when returning library books in the outdoor slots. But for that I am only about 30' away, have a direct site of the vehicle at all times, and am away from the car for about 10 seconds.
I don't get it, what happened in the bathroom? She got him from the car, he was ok going in there, but crying upon exit?
Yeah, it was super weird. One minute he was fine (not crying), they exit the bathroom and he's wailing. And not the "Why did you wake me up Mommy, I'm cranky" cry, it was a mad as hell/hurt cry. Broke my heart. I will be giving M extra hugs tonight.

Jody had anonymous reports from random people on the internet and CPS actually went to her house a few times.
wow i didn't know people really did report her. i know she's crazy, and doesn't think, but i can't imagine the stuff she does that could endanger a child.....other than posting her address on the internet for everyone. but maybe i missed it, i disappeared during her hype and was never *really* into it.
