I keep "shopping" by putting things on my Amazon or BBB registry. I have the completion discounts for both now, but not quite ready yet to make the big orders. The limited things we've bought were when we had BBB coupons. Last weekend I used one of those $5 off $15 or more on these:
I also bought patterns, lining material, and lavender accent fabric to make the crib skirt and valences. I already had the main fabric. (I obviously have grandiose dreams of free time.)
Last weekend we got our BOB as a gift, which was totally rad.
(sorry this is big, it's the smallest one on Google images)
This is going to be used in his quilt, the quilt I'm making for the glider, a crib sheet, and ordered a couple of extra for other crafts that come up. It's also serving as color scheme inspiration for other things!
Thanks! Me too, it's perfect for the gentle sprinkling of astronomy theme I think.
Astronomy is such a cool theme.
I also like the "gentle sprinkling". People keep asking me what our nursery theme is going to be, and I'm hesitant to tell them birds, because I'm really only expecting to have 3-4 bird things. I don't want to get bombarded with a ton of bird-related gifts and have the nursery turn into:

We're not telling anyone, we're just saying the room is going to be white and navy with some tan accents. Honestly this is probably about all of it that's going to be astronomy themed unless we decide to do a mobile (currently a no), except for a few pieces of wall art that are going to be swept into a larger collage of items.
The other things we're planning are tiny embroidered samplers of each of our zodiac constellations (so, 4 2" rounds- one for me, H, the dog and the baby) and a navy version of this (aka the thing my husband is most excited about for our nursery). Depending on wall space we may end up with one of these with some of the panels in the above fabric, but it won't be all astronomy.
Yeah I think I made a mistake telling people we were going to do elephants... I was thinking an elephant toy here and there, maybe some elephant sheets/blankets but that's it. Now I get bombarded with picture messages anytime anyone sees anything elephant related. I'm going to be swimming in elephants, aren't I?
This is baby #2 for me, so we still have a ton of stuff from baby #1. But I will be getting a new Ergo 360 carrier. Just waiting to see it on sale/find a coupon to use for it.

Yes, you are.
My friend who's hosting the shower originally was going to make the shower theme the same as the nursery theme, and I requested something else. But she still wanted to make the invitations the same as the nursery theme, so if people bought me stuff for the nursery, it would match. But I don't want a ton of bird junk! I was pretty much just thinking a mobile, sheets and/or a blanket, and something like this:
I have bought a lot of stuff. I'll post stock photos I found online since things are still in bags/not yet set up. We're going with an animal/zoo theme. So I got this crib; travel system; crib sheets; mobile; armchair; and diaper bag.
I went to a consignment sale tonight and scored a bouncer, my Brest friend, puj tub, and some clothes for baby as well as for ds1. List of things we need to get is getting checked off!
raangoli it's iron with a gold finish. I was worried it was too girly for a boy but it's a not shiny at all so I think it will work with the right accessories.
We've only bought the stroller, but managed to get a great deal on a used Quinny Buzz and bassinet attachment for only $175.
Mum pulled out some of my old baby clothes that she'd kept (the extra cute ones that survived without any poop stains) so we've got some retro 80s sleepers as well.
raangoli The crib is a Baby Mod Modena from Walmart, for $200 (also sold on Amazon for $250 I believe). It's JPMA certified and made of pine. The reason I liked it is that it is a bit shorter than most cribs, and being 4'11, I think that will make it easier for me to reach in to put baby in and take baby out. It has 4 mattress-height levels and can be converted to a toddler bed/daybed by removing a side.
The travel system is the Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System, with the Keyfit 30 carseat and Bravo stroller.

Thanks! I was really considering the Britax travel system but after the post yesterday, I want to be able to have other options as well. We will make a final decision when we actually see them in a store and try them out.
I've heard good things about that crib as well - thanks for all the info!

I've had the Britax travel system for 2 years and its great. Well, only used the infant carseat for about 9 months but we still use the stroller regularly and its a very nice stroller. Only complaint is the basket under it is a little small. But it folds up so easily and is lightweight. The carseat is pretty heavy but after about 4 months or so I stopped lugging the carseat+baby around and just left the carseat in the car.
roo1oo Thanks for the feedback! How easy was the install of the carseat? I read that it could be a little tricky? I guess they probably will be since we have never done this before.
I also liked that the Britax said it had a bigger canopy. Since baby will arrive at the end of March, I hope to be able to take walks etc when the weather gets nicer and like the idea of more coverage from the sun.
Was able to snag the Carter's diaper bag for $5.96 and the scentsy elephant was a gift. Trying to not buy too much since I have a baby shower coming up.

We loved our quinny for our dd. we had the maxi cosi car seat that snaps in and will get a new one again (our car seat expired).

It was super easy. It comes with a base that installs in the car. The base has LATCH connectors and you just snap those onto the LATCH receivers in your car, tighten the straps, and that's it. The car seat then snaps right into it and easily lifts out of it. The only issue you could have is the level of the car seat once snapped in. We had no issues, but you may have to wedge a towel or something under the base. But that's a typical problem with all car seats. Also you have to make sure the LATCH straps are really tight. I think DH sat on the base while he tightened the strap to get a good tight fit.
Rear facing convertible car seats are a bit trickier to install by comparison, but still really easy. The trickiest part was contorting myself to sit in the seat so that I could get the straps tight enough!
If you have any concerns over the installation of the car seats, lots of local fire companies and car dealers host monthly free car seat inspections. Just get them to install it with someone who is certified.
