We made an offer on a house last week and the seller was completely unwilling to negotiate, so we withdrew it. Dude, your house has been on the market for 5 months and you've had no offers except ours. So good luck with that.
We're looking at another house that is stunning on the outside but on the inside, you'd swear it's still 1988. It would require a lot of cosmetic work like replacing trim (there's old pine trim EVERYWHERE), repainting and removing American flag-themed wallpaper and borders (I told you, 1988), replacing carpet, taking the paneling off the basement walls. The one major renovation it would need is redoing the master bath - it would need a wall torn down and needs to be completely redone. So that one would be $$$. But the house itself is absolutely gorgeous, the size and layout are just what we want, and it could definitely be our dream home.
Any advice? Do it, don't do it? H is excited about the idea of doing all these projects. I'm excited too, but I'm also wary of the time and cost involved. One one hand, I love the idea of working on it over time and making it exactly what we want, but on the other hand, the idea of walking into a house that needs no work is kind of appealing too...
fixer upper, specially when it is all cosmetic, is a fantastic opportunity to really make it your own. Just tackle it one room at a time and be patient.
Oh god. The little dog brought a dead mouse in the house and deposited it on my living room rug. The kicker is - I can't remember when I last let her outside. It might have just happened, but I don't know cause h has just gotten home and it was chaos.

We went to an orchard today. They were sold out of honeycrisp already. Which was super fine with me because those aren't my fave, but it gave DH the sads.
I slept last night from 9pm to midnight, and then got a few fitful z's between 4 and 6:30ish. I am not human today. No amount of caffeine or napping is fixing it.
A new bakery opened up in my neighborhood this week. I flew out of bed and into some clothes this morning to go buy breakfast treats. Bets on whether I manage that tomorrow when my morning activity is a hike.
How was it? Do I need to go?
Soooooo unbelievably good. H and I split a ham and cheese morning bun and a Nutella toastie (fancy homemade pop tart) if that's any indication.
I want to go tomorrow to get the monkey bread and butternut squash toastie. I might too.

The quarter auction thing was neat. We didn't win anything, but we had a good time. The other 3 girls got there a half hour late because they had gone to dinner together. Oh, thanks for the invitation. I need more friends in the area. I love these girls, but two are twin sisters and the other has been friends with them since high school. It's hard to break into that, even though they really are lovely people.

Ew ew ew ew ew.
It didn't necessarily come from outside.
You're welcome. I'll retreat back to my house with scratching animals in the attic.

That's why I'm freaked! Though this isn't the first one she's rooted up this week - H has caught her twice outside with ones.
We have a pest service that maintains things, inside and out. I'll have to call them to do a courtesy check.

The flooding in South Carolina is devastating. I know so many people there, and hope they're safe. A friend posted a picture of their backyard and screen in patio, it looks like a river. I know most of the people there, probably don't have flood insurance, unless they lived in really low-lying areas.
ETA: Please be safe if you're in South Carolina, especially in Columbia or Charleston.

It doesn't sound so bad. Are you guys handy at all or know someone who is? The paneling will be a PITA but inexpensive to texture and paint, same with the wall paper. We just closed at the end of August. It had popcorn ceilings, nasty carpet that smelled like catpee, was kind of Cavey feeling in the main rooms, and had ugly paint. Oh and the bathrooms are totally nineties. We removed two walls (not load baring, obviously) and had someone come in and scrape the popcorn, texture and paint the ceilings. We pulled up the stinky carpet and dated laminate, cleaned it with pine sol and found someone to put new, dark laminate and beautiful molding throughout. The bathrooms are still ugly but we are going to do some updating with paint, new light fixtures, and restraining the cabinets. That should make it livable until we can afford to redo them. So far, we have spent almost ten grand on the renovations. It could have been less if we had done the other work ourselves but we were out of time (we rented back our condo from the new owners).
And been called in 3 times this weekend. Really not liking my job. And feel extra shitty that my one qualified employee has his brothers in town and they are supposed to go to the game tonight.

ttt - I'd go for it, but we are fixer upper people. I'm going through a loft conversion right now and then going to do a full house renovation in the last winter as well (two different houses). We're hiring out so that may be the difference - the most I'll do is tear things down and paint walls.

The first time DH found a mouse in our house, I was out trick or treating with a bunch of neighbors (and their kids, of course). DH called and I said "What?!? OH NO!!" so of course everyone wanted to know what was wrong. They all laughed and laughed and said it's pretty normal. A-holes - lol. Your pest company will just put put poison, which I would not recommend if you have pets. Emergency midnight vet visits are no fun and expensive. We eventually found where we think they were coming in and sealed it up (steel wool stuffed in the hole inside; concrete sealant for outside). We didn't have a problem all summer, but we'll see now that weather is cooling off.

No. My big OCD trigger is poisons. I wouldn't have hired this company if all they did was that. I'd be a fucking wreck.
The bait traps are only in our utility area of the basement up along the ridge on the foundation. I can barely reach them. Neither the dogs nor the kids have access.
They seal up holes outside when they find them (they do exterior checks 4 times a year). Wire mesh or spray foam where applicable. If they can't repair it, it's noted on our service sheet what we need to do.

Huh. Our service was not that thorough. We might not have cancelled if they were.
