Job Title:Program Coordinator (Hospital), GS-301-14 Department:Department Of Health And Human Services Agency:Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services Job Announcement Number:HHS-ONC-DE-12-728921
I've heard rumblings going around that this was going to be more common, but this is the first I've seen it.
When I interned at a fed agency, there was a position that was pretty much 100% telecommuting. The employee lived in the Midwest, office was in dc, employee flew in once a month for 1 office day.
I've heard rumors that various agencies are going to be more predominantly telecommuting, which would be awesome. I get so much more done at home than at work. And we have had a few people here and there who have special arrangements that let them WFH full time.
Im excited to see this (FT telecommuting) becoming more of a thing in the government.

Did they do patents? Apparently the patent office has a pretty nice WFH arrangement similar to that.
I've never seen positions posted as 100% telework before. I've known of a few people who do it, but it's usually after years in their career and they are very valuable to the agency.

No patents, this position was an education program manager...this particular person was hired because they had an educational background and a background with the population that the agency was educating.

I would love to see this. My sister and BIL both work for OPM and they have a few people that do it, but their position wasn't designed to be 100% telecommuting, but it's the schedule they worked out.
I'm not permanent right now, boo, but this would be great for me as DH and I are apart if it were a real option for the future. Bring on the telecommuting.

You going to apply?
No, not this one. I'm not qualified. I did get some promising scores back from some other things I applied to, so we'll see where that goes.
BF is a manager in patents and has 100% telework employees in different cities around the US he's never been in the same room with. It's interesting, definitely seems to take some getting used to.
I'm the opposite. I've worked from home since 2004 -- I seriously hate it at this point. It's extremely isolating, I miss out on opportunities to take on new tasks and if you get a shitty supervisor...it's very bad (bc no one else knows you aside from the shitty supervisor).
And you are very close to your refrigerator when you work from home...
Maybe not necessarily 100% of the time, but I wish my old office allowed more opportunities to telecommute. I really think it's the wave of the future. I think especially as some of policies take effect and the current generation of leadership retires, we will see more and more of it across the federal government.
We don't have positions that are posted as 100% TC, but we do have people who are domiciled in different locations. My old group had an individual who had been with the agency for years and they never made her move to headquarters. We have facilities all over so a lot of time the individuals have to go into the local facility one or two days a week rather than being 100% TC.
I knowa lot of people who work in different locations than their coworkers in my agency. Some telework. Noone100% teleworks.
I find it isolating. My husband will be working from home for a few weeks, but his company supplies things like webcams, phones, etc. my agency's setup is just to take your work laptop home.

How do you know what your scores are? Do you call the HR contact? All we've ever seen on DH's apps is the USAjob status, and whether it's been rated as "eligible -referred to hiring manager."
Also, I'm going to bed now, but am going to PM you about meeting up!

I got an email from that particular agency. It just said what the score was, based on my own self-rating and that the whole application still needs to be reviewed for next steps.
Like your DH the only thing I've seen before is eligible. I'm meeting up with a friend tonight that works for the agency, but in a completely different division is this the norm for the agemcy as far as next steps go.
Oh, OK... that makes sense. DH has a couple of "live" applications that have been referred. I'm hopeful for at least one on them - he had an interview and second interview in that same office a couple of years ago. He applied for a different contractor job at the same agency... an old classmate of ours did some checking, and the hiring manager said he was overqualified. Boohoo. : ( Will pm you later today when I'm not on my phone!

While my small local office doesn't have any, my big office and HQ have a lot of them. We have CO employees who work full time virtual from all over the country.
I'm happy that this week I got my laptop to allow me to telework 2x a week in the near future.
Was it posted for a specific person? My friend just started a 100% telecommuting position after a short internship with an agency. They are based in MD and have pretty strict telecommuting policies, but they were able to post a 100% telecommuting position just for her since she was moving.
FYI - after you get the notice of eligible/referred/etc, you can call the HR Rep and get your score (and how you ranked). Most ppl don't, but if you want to know you can.

If a position is posted for a short period of time like a work week or less than often times they do have someone in mind or if the KSAs are very very specific you can tell they may have someone in mind. Always apply though, you never know.
