Just saw a blasted map that says Michigan is in for above-normal snow fall levels again this year. Lovely. I have never been happy with the winter coats I've gotten for the kids so it's time to look for others.
Where do you buy your severe cold weather coats (and hell, snow bibs too) for toddlers?
Emerson Kate, born 38w5d on 4/6/12 at 6:02 p.m., 5 lbs 13 oz and 18 3/4 inches. Lucas Matthew, born 39w5d on 4/11/14 at 8:20 a.m., 7 lbs 4 oz and 20 inches.
The past 2 winters I've gotten DD's cold weather gear from HA and I've been super happy with them. I got DD a down hooded coat with an elastic waistband that covers her bum, and their one piece snowsuit. Super warm.
I've been told by other Chicago moms that Upper Midwest cold just can't stand up to brands like the Gap and it's worth it to spend more on the more "legit" cold weather brands like LL Bean and Lands End
We use Lands End for everyday jackets and snow pants. They are thin but thick! I was very happy last year so I bought another this year. Check consignment, both years I've found my winter gear there and paid a fraction of the retail cost.
For snow coat we have a 3 piece Columbia jacket that we will use this year.
I've gotten Land's End every year for W and have really liked it. Check their online clearance and "on the counter" clearance. I've gotten her coats and snow pants for less than $25 each every year.
I may have no business being in this thread since I'm in Northern California, but I have heard that Costco carries a brand called Snozu that are great for cold weather. Worth checking out I guess!

I got the lands end squall parka. Her second winter coat that's for less severe weather is from Boden. In Michigan I wouldn't mess around with brands like gap, Carters etc.

This brand didn't seem warm enough at all to me (sorry!)
Thanks everyone! I just ordered the bibs, jacket and boots for Emmy and Luke from Lands End! They are offering 30% on orders over $150 right now plus Ebates!!

I ordered Lands End a couple weeks ago. The 3 in 1 squall parka. And the squall snow bibs. Whichever ones are the warmest.
The fit is snug. He boys just started wearing 2T, and Henry is still in 18- 24 for the most part. I ordered 2T and 3T. The 2T is really snug. The pants are almost too small.
The jacket colors are not like pictures. Blue and orange in real life instead of blue and red.
I was going to exchange them at a Sears that carries LE but the closest is an annoying drive away.
And! Someone recently reviewed them online and said that the pockets are tiny. So I checked yesterday and there is a hole in one!
So, while they are definitely going to be warm, I am annoyed at the fit, the color descrepency, and the hole!

You should call them! They have really good customer service and may give you some of your money back

Has anyone who lives in super cold weather done Hanna Anderson coats/snow pants? I kind of just want to order from one place and lands end starts at 2t, so won't work for Sam. I think this coat would be really cute for the boys, but I don't know if it will be warm enough.

How cold are your winters? It's not like the boys will be playing outside when it's -30 here, but they will need to run from the house to the car etc...

I called the store nearest us, and they didn't have kids outerwear. I called the next closest and spent 45 minutes repeat calling because it would ring and ring and then hang up. So, I called LE themselves to ask if that store had kids outerwear and they couldn't tell me. I explained my issues and she said, "Well if you decide to send them back and exchange them, I can put a note in your file not to charge return shipping." Um, thanks?
I just want to see the green in person. It's Henry's favorite color but I don't like the gray with it. Based on the colors of the ones I do have, I'm nervous its going to be hideous so I don't want to order it without seeing it.
A few moms here really love a brand called Polarn O Pyret. Its pretty pricey but I know a few stores carry it here so I'd be able to have the boys try them on.

Ugh, that sucks! Maybe it's LL Bean I'm thinking of with the awesome customer service. I think they take anything back no questions asked. It's probably best to have them try stuff on. I like a lot of the stuff from Polarn O Pyret! It's cute.
