We had planned a trip to a San Antonio resort for Wed-Sun of this week but decided to cancel it today and have a "staycation" instead. DH has been really busy at work and said that 3 workdays at home where everyone thinks he's OOT on vacation sounds like heaven and I can take or leave SA so here we are.
We plan to send DD to school on Wednesday and Friday like normal. She is an inconsistent napper but can't go anywhere in the afternoon without falling asleep in the car so we have to work around that.
Ideas: - breakfast out after we drop dd at school - pedicure for me - zoo on Thursday (we have passes and haven't been since May due to weather). I have a Groupon for the Butterfly Exhibit at HMNS so we may do that, too, after a quick lunch since we'll be right there. - visit Mercer Arboretum - convince a grandparent to take DD overnight so we can go on a date night
Any other suggestions, Houston-specific or not? I doubt DH will be open to going to Galveston, he's a beach snob. I enjoy Galveston but not as a day trip.
I think a date night would be awesome if you can get a grandparent to do an overnight :-)
Has your H ever had a pedicure? I know a lot of guys don't think they'd like one, but my husband has had a few and really finds it relaxing. A couples massage could also be really nice.
I would honestly sit on the couch for part of the time DD is gone and just watch all the TV together we never have time to watch. And sleep.
Do the tourist in your area thing. My kids and H both love that. We just pick an area spot the tourists love, but we rarely go to, take the long way there and back and just enjoy it.
Are you into the casino at all? H and I live a half hour from one so on date night we'll each just take $10.00 play until it's gone and come back home. H has won decently big a few times so then we decide what to buy with the winnings or put it in the kids' savings accounts.
Is he a beer guy? A drive out to Shiner? I don't think they are open on the weekend, so we have never stopped by. I enjoy the Art Museum personally and have been wanting to go back.
I'm not familiar with Houston but I would love to do the following:
See a movie Have a fancy dinner date night at home after the kid(s) are in bed: wine or fancy cocktail with a nice meal you cook together Couples massage? Get a pedicure The zoo sounds fun as a family fun day Have a movie night at home - rent or order on demand some fun movies, make a comfy area to lay around and watch the movies, make popcorn, buy some movie candy Have a fun night outside with a real bonfire OR if you don't want to have a fire make this s'mores dip! www.snackworks.com/recipe/honey-maid-smore-dip-185904.aspx?crlt.pid=camp.PjxeXSjYzcCp&pp=1
