Totally reasonable for you to be annoyed. You had a plan, and he talked you out of it then made you feel crappy about it. I don't "do" motivational pep talks when I'm running and exhausted either. It drives me nuts. While it is great that he came out to support you, it seems like you would be better supported by having him spectate. Do the race again next year and kick its ass. It will feel fantastic!
Next time, let me know, I'll come cheer for you - but I won't even try to run with you, lol.
I love it if you would run with me! I also trust that if I tell you that I can't physically run faster than my pace for the last mile and a half, you're not going to give me shit about that. "At least you didn't bike 150 miles this week like I did! Of course you can go faster! "

RAAAAAAAGE.
LOL, I could probably physically keep up with you for about 200 feet before I was lagging behind and wishing for death. I'm slooooooow.
I ran a half in april, it was last minute, i was visiting a friend, i was midtraining cycle and had a cold, lifted a bunch that week. My friend, who runs a 1:25 hm said hed run with me, maybe help me pr, which i had NO plans to do. So here i am, dying, and hes running like 2 m/m slower than normal, and chatting up a storm and trying to be supportive. Yeah i wanted to kill him. It was my slowest half in YEARS.
Moral of the story: run your own race.
But congrats, you got through it. Every race, even the shitty ones, teach you something, and make you better for the next one.
Ditto all of the others. Heart was probably in the right place, but execution was annoying as hell. I would have been shouting for him to either leave me or STFU. Bravo to you, for having much more restraint.
